Changes to LHSAA rules 2014-15

Just a few notes for those who are interested:
- Reclassification will be in February, not November.
- Private schools will play in the dome a week before the Publics.
- Privates can play up in division for football (Evangel, Curtis etc can play Rummel, Catholic)
- Private brackets will have 16 teams vs 32 for publics
Of note, Jindal has 6 more days to veto the bill to make for third party arbitration in eligibility cases.

they need to address the unfairness in having 50+ teams in the upper nonselect classes and 27 in 1A and 39 in 2A...

That's a public problem now. Doesn't look like we are going back to old system. I bet all sports will be split in 2 years.

It was a bit ridiculous where there were some private school classifications where almost everybody got into the playoffs (or at least it seemed that way).

I think Jindal will veto that bill. But if he doesn't I am curious to see what happens. I would love to see the LHSAA fold simply because it would be interesting to see what the fallout is.

Well now we will see if the catholic league wants to play the small Christian privates. Supposedly Curtis was scared to play 5a football. I guess this proves JT really stayed 4a for the other sports.

INTENTIONAL law passed to be a 'poison pill' for the LHSAA by some disgruntled south Louisiana legislators to get back at the LHSAA for the separate private/public playoff system in feetball.
I hope Jindal will veto this but time is running out
I do think that the LHSAA is headed for a complete private/public split.
The south Louisiana private schools will be OK, its the northern private schools that are gonna get hit hard by a split.
In NELA, there are only a handful of privates that participate in football, Ouachita Chrisian, St Fredericks, Cedar Creek.
In N'west Louisiana, the numbers are just a bad, Evangel, Calvary Baptist, and maybe two or three other schools.
BTW, if there is a public/private split. I wonder if the south Louisiana privates are going to want John Curtis to join them? Same way with the northern schools, will the privates want Evangel & Calvary Baptist in their league?

I can tell you that the plan being talked about last year would have created an association open to ANY school private or public.
I really hope Jindal doesn't veto this bill. It's beyond time we hold this dysfunction public entity accountable.

They can do whatever as long as the lhsaa isn't forced to break its own rules with arbitration... Its not like they are discriminating. Maybe they need some oversight, but forcing to allow an overage kid to play isnt the answer

Also, to Senterious.
The LHSAA age rules are plain as day and night. If a student athelete turns 19 years old on/or after Sept 1, then he/she is no longer eligible to play for that calender year in high school sports.
If Jindal signs this bill, EVERY eligibilty ruling by the LHSAA can be taken up by a third party arbitrator. This has the potential to cost thousands of $$$ per case. This could bankrupt the LHSAA.
This is what the legislatures had in mind when they passed this bill into law, it was to get back at the LHSAA for the private/public football playoff system.
Stupid and classeless.

So my question is, if this is signed into law, what will be the age limit of a student athelete? 20? 21? 25? 30? You see where this is leading?
BTW, if Jindal signs this into law, it will be quickly appealed and most likely will be struck down by the courts.
The Louisiana Supreme court has already ruled on something similar to this about the LA legislature cannot force the LHSAA to do something like this.

Ghost I think many selects felt it would be awful hypocritical of them if they didn't include JC and ECA...

It's not limited to age eligibility. The bill would allow schools and athletes to appeal LHSAA's arbitrary decisions to third party arbitration instead of taking it to the courts.
It will save money and provide some oversight to a dysfunctional public entity.
