We have to head down to take an aunt out to dinner tonight - she is in Metairie for a conference. Thinking about hitting the River Shack. I have always enjoyed the lunches I got there. Is it open for dinner?

It's open but it's not the same. Just bar type food, I'd find another place.

Correct. The chef does a few nice specials at lunch. Nothing special for dinner.

Cowbell up the road would be a nice option.

Yeah, it's open for dinner, but why would you do that to yourself?

Cowbell is definitely a good choice for lunch and/or dinner. Great burgers and great food.

Maybe we will try the Cowbell. I didn't realize that River Shack had a different thing going on for dinner.

Agree about cowbell. I've only been to Cowbell once but I was surprised at how diverse their menu was.

There's a lot of stuff I wanted to try...skirt steak, fish tacos, brussel sprouts, organic lime chicken.

Will be going back for sure.

Cowbell is superb. Great choice for dinner.

@ River Shack Tavern y'all might get annoyed by the live music and smoking.

Sounds like Cowbell it is. I think River Shack is non-smoking now right?

They've been no smoking for awhile now.

Seriously? So the "home of the tacky ashtray" is now non-smoking? The POA continues.

not sure what your expectations are, but Rivershack isnt that terrible at night.

i only say Cowbell if you are in that area. It's right up River Road as you come into Orleans parish.

Not a lot of expectations. She is staying off Causeway and River Shack and Crabby Jacks came to mind since I have been to those. Crabby Jacks is lunch only I think.

Yes, even as a non smoker It ticks me off. It's part of their character.

Also Mike the chef is on vacation so they don't have lunch specials right now either.

Goofy looking place Sake Don's on Jefferson and Central, has excellent sushi. He's only been open at this spot 6 months, but he's had several other successful sushi joints.

That's good to know, I've never been just because it replaced one of my favorite lunch spots.

Impastato's could be an option. Cafe Equator, too.

That is, if she's staying around I10 and Causeway
