Pointless Hashtags, or, Celebrities not Doing Sh*t

The new thing for celebrities these days is to hear about a national or international issue in passing, feel like you need to do something, and then take a picture of yourself for Twitter using a clever hashtag, and then not doing a god damn thing to fix the issue or contribute to the discussion. This pisses me off to no end, because it gives celebrities a false sense of accomplishment. Things like #BringBackOurGirls and #JusticeforTrayvon and #Kony2012 seem clever, but it is empty. You posting a picture of yourself on social media with a sad face holding a sign that says #BringBackOurGirls doesn't do a fricking thing. These fads tend to last about two weeks until people feel like they have done their part, but it is all just a way for people to act like the blowhards they are without having to actually take action or spend money.

Most definitely... There is one that is a reoccurring guest on a radio show I often listen to and he posted the bringthegirlsback and when questioned about it, he didn't know shite about the situation and started talking about Michelle Obama and how she would get them back....

It reminds me of that Louis CK bit where he says just the thought of giving up his first class seat to a soldier makes him feel so great about himself. He wouldn't ever do it, but it makes him feel great.

Yeah I am not even on Twitter or anything, and maybe I just suffer from hypervigilence, but I can't seem to avoid all this nonsense.
