MLB draft is the hardest one to get excited about since you know you won't see most of them in action for a while.

Been giving this a lot of thought.

I think we need to stick with to our original plan and go with Rodon.

Shut him down for the rest of this year, limit his innings next year. Good to go

If not him, then Aiken, Nola, Jackson. I trust Jeff

I'm in the Jackson boat.

I just think that pitchers are more of a roll of the dice than bats are, especially high school.

But hey, what the frick do I know>?

My thoughts as well.

Rodon is a hard throwing lefty with a dominant slider. Tommy John surgery has advanced incredibly lately, so I think this pick would be fine.

I watched a video of Aiken. Great curve, but seemed like he got hit hard and had some command issues.

I also think a hitter would be better from highschool. Rodon at least faced a higher dose of talent for a few years in his pitching. Aiken played against highschoolers that might not even go to college ball, much less be drafted.

I think I'd go with Rodon. I think he's the safest pick and he has huge potential.

I don't know much about Jackson. Does he project catcher long term? From what I've read I want Aiken but I haven't been able to keep up with the latest near as much I should

But really it boils down to I will support whatever Luhnow and his band of smart guys think best. Because let's be honest here they know more than me....

Jackson projects as an outfielder.

I would like to take the best bat in the draft, but I'm not sure if Jackson really warrants the 1-1 pick like the pitchers do.

I agree. This draft really warrants a pitcher going 1.1, making the Appel over Bryant pick look worse.

Honestly, if we are already associating Rodon with TJ surgery, why would I interested?

It isn't a guarantee that he will even need the surgery. He can easily be shut down this year and let the team work on health.

The thing is, that if he does need it, it is to the point where it is not a big deal.

I think they take Rodon and wouldn't be upset if they do. I'd be alright with Jackson too.

How many rounds do they draft today?

But a high school bat has only faced high school pitching. You kind of contradict your argument/point.

Same here. If they feel he is healthy and was just mismanaged at NCSU (a distinct possibility), Rodon becomes a steal. They can offer him between $5-6 million and spend the rest of their allotment on value.

Yeah I understand but hitting skill adjusts easier.

I am not a pro scout though so yeah

I don't know what's more surprising to me: Correa having swiped 17 bags in just 51 games or him having a .100 batting average versus LH pitching.

Good opinion article written on crawfishboxes.com a few days ago about Rodon that I agree with 100% (its a few days old, so apologies if posted in any other threads).

quote:

Was Carlos Rodon misused by his college coaches? Maybe. That's less of a deal than you think, though. Instead, that should show you a reason why his stuff suffered this year. He wasn't coached properly. Think what Brent Strom and his pitching system can do with Rodon

quote:

Take away any concerns over his health and what do you have? A workhorse starter, with clean mechanics, and one of the best single pitches in the draft. He's got good control, even if it's not great in collegiate terms. He's got a better fastball than most lefties. And he's still relatively young for his age group.

The entire article:
Rodon
