Feeling nostalgic. With all the chaos in the world today and all the focus on bad people, I thought it might be a good idea to reflect back on some of the influential public figures that we grew up with in our formative years that we still hold in high regard today - deceased or living. People that left an indelible mark - in a good way - for the rest of mankind to enjoy. Please share your favorite along with a brief word on why.

My entry: Jacques Cousteau - opened up an entirely new under-sea world.

Don Herbert from Mr. Wizard's World. It was THE show for me on 80's Nickelodeon.

Sins like the inability to spell correctly, or use proper wording in a sentence.

I'd agree with Reagan as well. The "tear down this wall" moment is something that will stick with me forever.

Nikola Tesla

The dude invented the twentieth century. If his time were the present, we'd be flying around the galaxy right now.

General George S. Patton. He was an amazing general and left quotes that just about every man should live by:
"A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week."

"A good solution applied with vigor now is better than a perfect solution applied ten minutes later."

"America loves a winner, and will not tolerate a loser, this is why America has never, and will never, lose a war."

"A pint of sweat will save a gallon of blood."

"By perseverance, study, and eternal desire, any man can become great."

"Do everything you ask of those you command."

"Do more than is required of you."

"Fixed fortifications are monuments to man's stupidity."

"Good tactics can save even the worst strategy. Bad tactics will destroy even the best strategy."

"I always believe in being prepared, even when I'm dressed in white tie and tails."

"If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking."

"If I do my full duty, the rest will take care of itself."

"In case of doubt, attack."

"It’s the unconquerable soul of man, not the nature of the weapon he uses, that insures victory."

"Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way. "

"Live for something rather than die for nothing."

"May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't."

"Moral courage is the most valuable and usually the most absent characteristic in men."

Have you ever read the Patton Papers Vol. I-III by Martin Blumenson? I read them when I was around 18, and I loved those books. It gave you real insight into the man. Most of it was his own diary he kept from a very young age.

In general, I agree with this. But ironically, embedded in this sentence is a word that's often associated with this social anomaly.
