anyone know anythign about the schwarber kid out of indiana. Rumors picking up that the cubs at 4 are strongly considering him underslot assuming aiken and rodon are gone.

well the ill fated hope that Rodon would slide to the cubs seems to be over. Most saying Marlins will take him leaving cubs to take a college bat.

Most of the recent chatter seems to have the Cubs taking Michael Conforto from Oregon State.

The Carlos Rodon bonus demand hammer has dropped. I'm told its $6 million plus. Aiken heavy favorite to go 1-1 now.

Though we gave Appel a $6.35 million bonus last year so I'm not sure why they'd balk at that bonus for an arguably better pitcher.

yea the only other speculation i've seen (since the slim hope of rodon slipping are gone) is schwarber if the cubs can't get conforto to agree to signing significantly underslot.

I'm wondering if the Cubs decide to take an arm. Tyler Kolek could probably still be there at 4. They haven't taken a first round pitcher since 2010 and most of their top 10 prospects are hitters.

At this point, it might even be debatable that Rodon > Appel

Well you only have college stats to compare them on. Both were very very good college pitchers. Appel hasn't been great in his limited pro career but we have no idea how Rodon will fare.

I think Rodon was better than Appel last year too.

They don't like him. They think he's too big and a matter of when, not if, he gets injured. They wanted a college pitcher (which is why they flirted with nola for a bit) becuase they view the draft as being deep with pitchers (of which they'll take many) but think they can get them in later rounds.

Farm is certianly hitter heavy and needs pitching, there just won't be a year or so away guy available for them at 4 (at least with the upside to be taken at 4 for that money)...which sucks.

I could be way off base, I just think Rodon is going to be a monster.
