In the scenario where you're acquaintances, but not real good friends and you're splitting gas on a trip of known mileage and it's under 50 bucks or concert tickets or any other 50/50 scenario. I've wondered, because I've always wanted cash up front, and received funny looks. What does the OT say?

It's fine if you don't really know the person

Unless I'm very good friends with the person, I give and get money up front.

Generally, I only "extend credit" to close friends. That said, I got out of the travel and event planning game, because people always commit and then drop out - and you have to be a bill collector for all the shiftless MFers that do go.

Now, we tell people "we'll be at XYZ event, in this location, staying at this hotel, for these dates. We'd love to see you there!"

Dirty little secret: We honestly DGAF if they come or not.

It means you're a cheap bastard. If it's a huge expense then you're friends will pay up anyway. Fact

Disclaimer is you don't have shitty friends

This is what is acceptable. Maybe email a link to a travel deal or the room you'rereserving.

Concert tickets may be a little different if you want to sit next to the people. In that case I pay them up front and let them buy the tickets.

While I agree with most of the above, the OT is slacking.

Sorry you're poor...

They got to get home don't they? You have more leverage when they need to get home than when they need to get there.

As far as the trip planning, it is the biggest pain in the arse to deal with and I am usually stuck doing it twice a year. Such a pain in the arse getting money for stuff. I floated nearly two grand and asked for half up front between 8 people, like 100 bucks each or something, and it took me two months to get it from everyone. One day I will mean it when I say I am done planning the trips for our group.
