Why not put cameras on referees for use in instant replay?

Like all of them wearing a GoPro or something similar on their head? I can see it having some uses, but it isn't going to be as steady as one of the big HD sideline or cable cameras. And not sure how they'd get the feeds to the replay booth easily. I know Nascar has in-car cameras on most of the cars now, but that takes some extra electronics that need to be installed.

Was not aware of that.

Also was not aware the WNBA still existed.

I'm not convinced the WNBA still exists. I think it's all done with holograms now.

Ya, unless they have some sort of artificial stabilizing software it isn't going to be much use. Refs move a lot in football.

Other sports may be useful though.

They should get their cameras into the player's helmet(frick the refs) so we can tune into what it looks like when Barry Sanders does his running.

He retired too soon!

LeSean McCoy will do though.

Problem is, if you think attendance is bad enough, I'd never go to a game if I had this camera option on my HD TV

What if the stream was only available AT THE GAME through your phone/tablet. That would enhance the fan experience.

Not sure it would work all that well. With as much money sports bring in there shouldn't be a problem with getting a camera angle for literally every scenario on the court, field, etc.

If i were the NFL i would put a camera on wires right above the players that can be moved all over the field, that'd be great

Well, putting a GoPro camera on the ref would only show what he was looking at or able to see. If his head is turned or is blocked by a player or whatever, the camera would still be blocked. Which would make it pointless to having the camera there.

Thats why they use aerial / baseline / stadium cams for replays. Pretty much impossible to completely block all of those cams.

For a sport like baseball, it could work though. Especially for the Ump behind home plate. But for a sport like basketball / football, where refs and constantly running and moving around and all that, I dont see the advantage.

I think this could be a good idea in baseball but I would think refs move to much in football, basketball, soccer, etc. to get any usable footage

It would work on an umpire in football with a wide lens, at the snap hes watching the interior line.... That would be cool to watch

Gyro's are the answer.

But that would cost millions.

However, it's a sound investment.

Because when they go looking at the replay and the ref is not looking at the play like he's supposed to, it'll make em look worse than they already are.
