Anyone feel strongly about this?

LONDON (AP) -- Britain's fertility regulator says controversial techniques to create embryos from the DNA of three people "do not appear to be unsafe" even though no one has ever received the treatment, according to a new report released Tuesday.

As long as it's a M, F, F 3 way, I'm cool with it.

What exactly would be the point of this?

Would this allow trait predictability to be easier? Making parents able to say they want a kid with blue eyes, blonde hair etc.?

exactly

Marcy Darnovsky, of the Center for Genetics and Society in the U.S., warned that allowing embryos to be created this way might lead to a slippery slope and tempt scientists and parents to use the techniques to create designer babies with certain traits.

Everyone gets their mitochondria from their mother. Mother's with mitochondrial disease (which is its own, distinct DNA) can have their regular chromosomes implanted along with the husband's into a vacant (no DNA) donor egg that does not contain the faulty mitochondria, preventing (you guessed it) inheritable mitochondrial diseases in the offspring of women with mitochondrial diseases. Very niche market.

No. It would only increase the predictability of the presence or absence of mitochondrial disease in the offspring.

I was thinking along the lines of creating a professional/division 1 athlete. If that's the case then my sperm is going to be in high demand.

This is just stupid. Screwing around with nature can cause long term problems.

We need to get past the anti-vaccination geniuses first.
