If so what is the treatment or is there any? Is it terminal and what is life expectancy? Thank you.

My grandfather just died and he had it.
He also had failing kidneys, and a heart attack, and lived just shy of 89, so in other words, it may not be the end of the world.

Yes. What do you need to know about it? My aunt died from a rare form of it. It looks like my dad may also have it. He sees a specialist at National Jewish Health in Denver. So far so good.
There is a bunch of info on NJH's website.

There's not really a cure, but there are treatments that can prevent it from progressing. Progression can lead to heart failure as a result of the destruction of the blood vessels in the lungs(which are connected to it and provide the oxygen filled blood). In young patients, they will usually try and get them on the lung transplant list because the heart failure will eventually kill them. In older patients, it really depends on how far the disease has progressed. If the heart failure has already begun, the patients may only live 5 more years or less. If not, the patients could potentially live long enough so that they end up dying of something else before the fibrosis really becomes a major problem.

My mom was diagnosed with it last year. She's changed her diet and started excercising. It's greatly improved her health and she's got more oxygen in her blood than before. Per the Doctors it hasn't really progressed. Hopefully it'll stay that way. Good luck to you!!

I will find out more when I get the results of the test. I am optimistic right now. For some reason I don't think that's it.

Good luck to you. I have a friend with cystic fibrosis that just had a lung transplant. She's doing well now, but that was rough shite.
Also, is it hereditary? Her mother and her younger brother both have it.

Not anywhere close to the same thing as pulmonary fibrosis, for the record (not sure if you are suggesting it is or not)

CF is hereditary, yes.

I wasn't suggesting as much...I didn't think it was the same, but I really have no idea.

Hopeful. I have several of these fibrous nodules, the largest being 4 centimeters. They seem to be concentrated in my left lung. What am I looking at? Is it possible just to take the left lung before it spreads to the right? If that's the case they can have it.

Pulmonary fibrosis is a nonspecific term, lots of things cause it. You need a specific diagnosis.
If its IPF, you can die within a year or two.
If its something responsive to steroids you could essentially be cured.
Make sure you have a pulmonologist who knows his shite.

If you are able to go anywhere for treatment then I suggest National Jewish in Denver. They are ranked second behind Mayo for pulmonary diseases. My dad checked out Mayo, but actually preferred National Jewish.

Calm down for a second and check out Cosmo's post. Fibrous nodules concentrated on one lung leans away from diffuse fibrosis (which is bad and the most severe) and points to a multitude of different things from not so severe to pretty severe. It's tough, but try not to worry yourself too much until they figure out what exactly is going on with you. As said before, what you're describing is a little too broad to explain the full differential, and doing so would worry you more than not. I would actually encourage you to not go reading into all the conditions until after you've been diagnosed. You'll just worry yourself more than anything. Let us know what the doctors wind up saying, and it will be much easier to give you an idea of what you're expecting.
