51st Annual Helldivers Rodeo this weekend!!

The 51st Annual Helldivers Rodeo is here! This year's rodeo will take place from June 5-8th; with the weigh-in being on Sunday, June 8th at the Kenner City Park Pavilion, 3800 Loyola Dr., from 10-1pm.
The Helldivers first competition took place 1963 as a sheepshead shooting competition in Lake Pontchartrain and has now grown into the largest spearfishing rodeo in Louisiana and one of the most storied rodeos in the United States. Competition is open to all inland and offshore waters. Every year, the competition is very fierce and some of the best spearfishermen from around the world compete in the 4 day event.
First, Second and Third place prizes will be available for the following fish:
- Red Snapper
- Cobia
- Grouper (No Gag Grouper)
- Mangrove Snapper
- Jack Crevalle
- Jack fish (any legal jack fish that is not an Amberjack or Jack Cravelle)
- Barracuda
- Stingray
- Sheepshead
- Spadefish
- Trigger Fish (Gray Trigger is closed; other Trigger Fish including Ocean and Queen Triggers are eligible)
- Miscellaneous
We will also have awards for King Spearfisherman, Queen Spearfisherman, Best Club, Best Boat, Senior Division, Junior Division, Champion Skin Diver, Blue Water, and Sheepshead Aggregate (5 fish stringer)
A total of 55 awards will be given out to competitors with many prizes for winners to select from.
The weigh-in is open to the public; competitors and spectators alike. Please come out and have a good time, you're sure to see some fish that will blow you away.

It really all depends whats open and whats not. Since Amberjack is closed, Almacojack will be the substitute but Almaco is usually a miscellaneous.

Cubrea Snapper
King Mackerel
and other randoms

I could never win this shite. I'm too scared to shoot the big fish. I shot an amberjack one time that I underestimated, it drug me around for a bit and I thought I was gonna die. I'll stick to the 15-25 lb. fish.

I've only been spear fishing once in the gulf and this happened to me. I was scared shitless.
