I am an outspoken conservative/libertarian. Did any of y'all have trouble with liberal professors? It seems like colleges are moving further and further to the left.

Why do you need to bring politics into the classroom? I promise you that no one else in the room gives a flying frick about your political disagreements with the teacher.

How is one both a conservative and a libertarian?

I go to law school at UTK and I lucked out by having an awesome Con Law professor who is a fairly well-renown libertarian. Actually, I have several profs who are libertarian/conservative. It is virtually impossible to find a social con in academia though.

Look, were most of the professors I had that wanted to throw their personal opinion into lecture liberal? Yes.

Did I let it bother me and challenge them? No.

If you aren't smart enough by college to figure stuff out on your own and let your hippie professor or vice versa influence you then you don't belong there.

And you're way better off keeping your head low and writing to your professor to get the grade. Your future employer isn't gonna give a frick what happened in that classroom, just your grade.

so you'll first get the full absurdity of the Commerce Clause when you get out into practice

One of the guys I studied German lit at LSU with was pretty socially conservative.

Language professors don't count, do they?

I don't know about that. I don't know a single one of my friends who has to deal with the commerce clause in their practice.

Plus it's readily absurd while you're in school regardless of teacher.

Unless you are in an insanely politically charged literature class, nobody is going to care.

Just shut the hell up in class, don't randomly bring up politics, and you'll be fine. Make sure to make friends with the professors, you always need references.

I'm on a phone and tried to get my point across and failed miserably.

I know it's not out in practice, but my point was that I doubt a libertarian is really going to spend the time covering how convoluted it's become. It's the foundation for everything that goes against libertarianism

I could see him getting more involved being so bitter about it

We only read the main cases that are dumnb, he might bring up the relatively unpublished ones just to belabor the point.

I'd like that poster to post more about this guy, he's a rare bird outside of George Mason.

I came across a fair amount at my school. I was lucky enough to have one of the most renowned medical ethicists in the world for a class one semester - he was as pro-life as they come. Catholic nature of the school, I guess - a social conservative but economic liberal, at least in the American sense, was not unusual...probably the opposite of a lot of academia.

I was a biology major, so IDGAF. I honestly dont recall politics ever coming up in a single class after freshman year required courses.

But the vast majority of biologists are global warming nuts.

never. One of the best professors I've ever had Socialist leanings and you would never have known from his class. Amazing teacher. Only rarely have I had professors opine on their beliefs and it was never more than a slight annoyance.
