Despite having a vacant director chair for its Ant-Man film, Marvel Studios has zeroed in on Sinister helmer Scott Derrickson to direct Doctor Strange. “My next movie will be STRANGE,” Derrickson tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

quote:

Derrickson made his feature writing and directing debut with the 2005 horror flick The Exorcism Of Emily Rose and followed with his first major studio gig, 2008's The Day The Earth Stood Still for Fox. The Keanu Reeves starrer was a critical disappointment. Four years later, Derrickson returned with smaller-scale genre pic Sinister, which he co-wrote with C. Robert Cargill, produced, and directed on a $3M shooting budget for microbudget maven Jason Blum. Sinister became an $87M box office hit for Blumhouse Productions and Summit. Derrickson’s next, the Jerry Bruckheimer/Screen Gems exorcism horror Deliver Us From Evil, opens July 2.

I am so disappointed!

TDTESS is one of the wost movies of the decade.

This isn't going to be easy source material to convert to film and this guy has proven he can't direct worth a damn.

Earth is just such a stupid movie and I could make a 20 page post on all the pointless poorly executed moments that make up that pile of crap.

I'm not sure there's gonna be a lot of people rushing to see a Dr. Strange movie unless they pull a big-time star as the lead.

Sinister was pretty good and had a unique style to it. I could see it completely working with...

Dormammu

Sure Earth was terrible and Emily Rose wasn't great, but they've picked good directors so far. And outside of Ant-Man and Favreau leaving IM3, they've struck gold on most occasions.

IM2 & IM3 were terrible. They made money but they were horrible.

They hated the supernatural element of Mandarin so much they destroyed his character for an even goofier super power.

I don't see how they are going to make Strange work.

If GOTG is a big hit, it will show them they can do weirder stuff and still be successful. Hopefully it will encourage them to push the boundaries even more with Doctor Strange.

They've already gone back and established that Mandarin actually exists in the MCU.

IM2 just wasn't what people expected and IM3 was...misunderstood. Not terrible movies, just not what we wanted.

Well the Extremis story line is legit and is where that all came from, whether it worked or not is debatable. Mandarin was a HUGE letdown though.

If they must go younger (he is in his 40's, but he doesn't look it), he would probably make my short list.

Please tell me you aren't turning into Michael J Cocks. Both were bad movies and 3 was an abomination and not just for what they did to Mandarin.

Benedict Cumberbatch looks like a Steve Ditko drawing. That's who they need to cast.

They are going to grab a major star for this. Don't think Leto is big enough for a property not as well known like this one

I read a rumor a few months ago that Disney wanted some star power since RDJ was leaving and they were interested in Johnny Depp. I think he would ham it up too much but Keanu and Cumberbatch would work. I think Christian Bale and Ethan Hawke could work too though Bale seems burned out on playing superheroes. I don't know if Leto could pull off the action scenes.

I normally agree with you 100%, but I'm. Sorry, IM3 was horrible.

Somebody at Marvel thinks like me. The early wish list for Doctor Strange is Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy.
