My wife and I will be taking a vacation to Gatlinburg at the end of the month.

On the first day, we will drive from Baton Rouge to Chattanooga and stay the night. It's about an 8 hour drive, and I was wondering if anyone has a good recomendation for a lunch spot somewhere along the way, and a dinner option in Chattanooga. Since we are only staying one night, I don't think we will be looking for anywhere "nice" but if there is a local, casual joint with good food, please recommend.

Also, we will be staying in a cabin in Gatlinburg for a few days. Any places up there worth eating at? Or should we just buy groceries and cook?

Thanks!

Not sure how along the way it is, but swinging by one of Frank Stitt's spots in Birmingham (Highlands Bar and Grill or Bottega) would be a good choice for a lunch.

That's likely the best chance for a really nice meal, and it should be on the route.

OP, Gatlinburg is not a food destination, unless youi're craving pancakes. I hope you get a few decent recs. I haven't been there in quite a while. I'd take some steaks for the grill.

Head to the Bluff View Art District. Tony's Pasta shop is pretty good and it's a nice area.

Back Inn cafe is good in the same area, but probably more formal than you're looking for. But, it's probably your last chance for a nice meal out before getting to Gatlinburg.

there is a hole-in-the wall Italian joint in Gatlinburg called Best Italian. Nothing fancy but the food is legit. Cherokee grill isnt bad...J Alexanders type food.

Lots and lots of chain restaurants. Have fun!

Gatlinburg is a dump.

Do you have time to make the trek up to Blackberry Farm? That's still on my bucket list.

Cooking on vacation sounds shitty. If so, cook as fancy as you would like, but eat on paper plates. Bring cheap cook ware and when dirty just throw the shite off in the woods. Be damned if I go on a trip to a cabin for relaxation and will have to clean dishes.

In Chattanooga, I enjoyed Urban Stack for a nice "gourmet burger", Lupi's Pizza for pizza and Terminal Brewhouse for casual food and beer brewed onsite. All are family friendly, and none will break the bank.

In Gatlinburg, aside from pancakes, we enjoyed Mexican from Loco Burro, since it had a great rooftop area that offered great views and beer and pizza from Smokey Mountain Brewery.

None of these are fine dining establishments. That's not why I go to that part of the country. Give me some good beer and food, and I'm happy.

A lot of solid recs. Very much appreciate it.

I know Gatlinburg isn't the food capitol of the world, but there must be a few decent local places to grab a casual meal. I will check out these restaurants and the Italian place in Chattanooga sounds soild.

Apple Barn used to have a good, home style menu in Pigeon Forge. Check it out.

Just for gits and shiggles I went to go look at current rates for Blackberry Farm. I think it is safe to say there probably isnt much crossover between vacationers going to Gatlinburg and those heading to Blackberry Farm.

Holy shite, their rates have just about doubled since the last time I checked. The cookbooks will have to do.
