Let's take quick stock in Paul Mainieri. In the past five seasons, LSU has only made it to Omaha once, the same number of times LSU has missed the tournament. In the other three seasons, he's lost in the regionals twice now, once at home.

As a point of comparison, Smoke Laval was LSU's coach for five seasons. He also missed the tournament once, but he made it to Omaha twice. He lost in regional play twice as well. And LSU fired him for those results.

Who would you hire to replace him that will GUARANTEE better results?

So the feeling about the future of the program now is the same as it was in 2006?

I don't know. In my perfect world I imagine Alleva's replacement could find someone better for the $750,000+ LSU is paying PM.

there are no guarantees. we weren't guaranteed that Mainieri would have better results than Smoke. That isn't the way it works.

Anyone bothered to compare their off the field issues with players, team gpa, community service, or overall image they promote for LSU? Never mind, if they don't win the championship every year then they can all go to hell!

What if you didn't think Smoke should be fired? So is your position that Smoke did a bad job? Good job?

people didn't like Smoke as a person. That contributed greatly to him getting fired. Mainieri is more likable as a person, so he'll endure.

If we don't win a game in Omaha in the next 2 seasons, Mainieri could very well be sent packing.

So I guess we forget he made it in 08 and 09 and won it in 09. Only seems fair

meh, Mainieri just needs to win a game in Omaha. Going 0 for 2 last year is going to haunt him if he doesn't make it back soon.

I'm not a CPM fan, but that has more to do with him as a person not a coach.

The Smoke hire was hated from the start and the program really began to erode around him so he got the boot. That's not really the case right now, the program is on pretty solid footing right now.

as I said earlier, I'm not sure PM still has a job if not for Alan Dunn though.

He is better with the press and administrators, I'll go that far. I've seen him flat irrate in his office after games going off on people.
I wonder if he realizes we can see through his tinted glass windows at night when the office lights are on ? Hmm.

Smoke's teams got worse every year. If anything, the last 3 years of this past 5 year stretch are better than the first 2.

Wow, definitely getting sick and tired of seeing these really bad post season results. Hopefully, he has an epiphany and starts coaching well again.
