Is giving a small child a baseball at a baseball game an unwritten rule?

I was recently at a minor league baseball game when a player tossed a ball into the stands randomly and I caught it. A boy (probably around 8 years old) started begging me for it immediately. Of course I stuck it right in his glove, if I didn't I would look like a huge a-hole. (There was quite a few people at the game)

When is it ok to keep my ball.

I'm a big baseball fan. That ball would go into my collection. I would pull it out and remember that game from time to time.

Will an 8 year old actually give a shite about that ball 12 hours after the game??

Thoughts?

Will you give a shite about that ball 12 hours after the game? Will you bring it to work or school with you? That kid is going to get way more enjoyment out of that ball then you ever will. Plus it was from a minor league game.

Why the hell do you care about keeping a ball from a minor league game? It's not like babe Ruth threw you the ball. You are weird

first off, minor league ball? LOL

second off, the kid would bring that ball with him everywhere for at least a week and show it off to everyone. he'd talk about it forever to anyone who would listen. you would toss it in your collection and forget about it.

If you catch a legit foul ball/homer at a big league game its yours otherwise you have to give it up if there is a suitable taker. (i.e. any kid near you)

Also, by catch I mean actually catch. Not pick up off the ground.

My son got 3 balls at the last Zepyrs game we went to. He uses them for practice balls. He has about 30 balls, all of them were found or given to him.

I still have a ball from a Louisville Redbirds game hit by Ozzie Canseco. I was around the same age. I'm a 32 year old woman.

If you're that nostalgic, pick up another souvenir.

When it's a big league game and you caught it yourself (not mugged the 10 year old next to you to get it either).

Just go ask the team for one before the game. Minor Leagues are really accommodating to this. I have a pretty decent collection of different NCAA conference balls.

And you better not be that old guy with a glove. If so, you must forfeit every ball you catch.

Yes the kid will always remember that ball probably.

I may just be weird, but I still have a ball I got tossed to me when I was little at the old box.

Yes the kid will give a shite. I got a ball hit by Cecil Fielder when I was like 5 years old. I still remember the game and getting the ball like it was yesterday.

I've never caught a ball in the stands. If I get one at an MLB game I'm keeping it.

If it's a ball just tossed into the stands, give it to the kid. If it's a foul or a home run ball, keep it if you want (but don't run over people to get it). After all, if I caught a ball, I'd give it to my nephew...he won't be at the game, but it's the same spirit.
