I used to live in LP but just moved to EBR. Got a notice to appear for jury duty next month for LP. Am I obligated to go even though I no longer reside in LP? Their automated phone message and online resources were not clear.

Did they mail it to your EBR address?

Sort it out before the date or the judge will issue a bench warrant if you no show. Simple as that.

Yeah I'd go. Bench warrant will be issued if not. That's a whole separate PIA. Get it
Resolved before the date.

Just throw it out. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Get in touch with the clerk of court in LP and get it resolved before the date.

You absolutely do not want to take a chance of having a bench warrant on your record if you value your peace of mind.

Just need to call them and they will ask for a copy of your new power bill showing your name and address in another parish

I would say not. If you serve on a jury and convict someone a crafty lawyer may try and get the conviction thrown out. And then you might be charged with something.

I got a letter for jury duty in Shreveport once when I lived in Lafayette. I have never lived in Shreveport either. I didn't go and nothing happened.

Show up for the trial anyway. The cases in LP will be more entertaining with meth dealers and people dumb as bricks. Then when the trial is over when the judge thanks the jury you can thank the judge for letting a EBR resident be on the jury. Make sure you do it in front of both attorneys, that'll get a good laugh.
