The Obama administration on Monday will announce one of the strongest actions ever taken by the United States government to fight climate change, a proposed Environmental Protection Agency regulation to cut carbon pollution from the nation’s power plants 30 percent from 2005 levels by 2030, according to people briefed on the plan.

The regulation, according to people who spoke anonymously because they had been asked not to reveal details, takes aim at the largest source of carbon pollution in the United States, the nation’s more than 600 coal-fired power plants. If it withstands an expected onslaught of legal and legislative attacks, experts say that it could close hundreds of the plants and also lead, over the course of decades, to systemic changes in the American electricity industry, including transformations in how power is generated and used.

Gina McCarthy, the E.P.A. administrator, is scheduled to unveil the proposal in a speech at 10:30 Monday morning.

I realize this is within the discretion of the EPA administrative authority, though it seems that something so large and game-changing would also be run through Congress.

I will say this, Obama will likely go down as the most impactful president in history.

Best news there can be for Republicans in 2016.

Now, Hillary will be on the hot seat to side with sanity and the U.S. economy or with the environaziWHACKJOBS. There will be no hedging here. Either the c*nt promises (yeah, we all know about Dem promises) to take back the Obama regulations and risk pissing of the envirocooks, or she pisses off every citizen whose electric bill will be getting ready to double.

In the meantime, it will all be tied up in the court system and it will, in all likelihood, never be implemented.

uh, we probably don't need any govt action to decrease emissions by 30% (2005 baseline) by 2030, it'll happen in a Business-As-Usual scenario (unless nat gas plants really start making nuke plants uneconomical to run).

This all could be easily solved by building more nuclear.

As far as energy production, I thought the same thing. However, the accompanied job loss would be pretty significant.

The oil and gas industry is next on the list. Unfortunately that is how Louisiana makes its money. We could be the next rust-belt.

Yep. It's scary to think what could happen to LA's economy within my lifetime.

you're welcome. However I must qualify my suggestion. I have not yet ordered one so I can't fully endorse but I understand from Howard Stern that if you buy two, you get free shipping.

No but from what I hear from Stern, it helps when impacted.

Won't make a difference to the polar bears if China doesn't also cut its emissions. They are far worse than us iirc.

I tried these gummy bears from Target. Let's just say it's messy. I'm going the Squatty Potty route.

Well - its bound to happen eventually. I mean, there's only so much oil and gas so a shift is bound to happen at some point.
