GOT is a lot like The Wire in the sense that there's multiple storylines going on at all times with a ton of characters that are developed throughout. The difference is that GOT touches on some storylines too few and far between to the point where I don't know who's who. The show also tends to fixate on the storylines that no one gives a shite about. We got 10 minutes of King's Landing (5 of which was Tyrion's beetle speech) and 15 minutes of the awful Ramsey/Theon storyline that is a continuation of misery and annoyance

Well that is how the books are. Literally each chapter is from the POV of different characters. Some of the books....you never ever know what is going on with some of the main characters cause they aren't featured in that book.
