Any HVAC guys in here?

Anyone in OT Lounge have history with HVAC systems? I live in Chicago in a rental and have had the AC running all day. Started this morning at 72 inside and then at the worst point it was 82, with the AC running the entire time. In Living Room and Bedroom we have cathedral ceilings so i'm sure we're losing some air up there. In our 2nd bedroom, it has normal 9' ceilings and even that room isn't very cool.
Any ideas how to get this AC to manage the air inside? Hate wasting money by having this thing run all-day and still be 80+ in here but if we didn't have it running it would be 90+.

Cold Air? Not really cold air but it seems cold enough.

i would have to disagree if your house is 80 degrees

I live in Lakeview. I'm a few blocks west of Wrigley field at Southport/Roscoe.

It was 90 degrees in Chicago today so i'm sure this has something do to with it not cooling down inside. Does home depot sell thermometers that I can use to determine the temperature of the air coming out?

sounds like you need freon ....

The landlord sent a guy out here for freon on Friday. We were having issues with our supply lines freezing and adding freon fixed that, so i'm pretty sure he came over and added more.

check your drip pan under the "A" coil to see if your getting water there, if not, then your unit is not removing the humitity. Thus not cooling down your house.

If your suction lines are freezing then you are low of refrigerant. Which means you have a refrigerant leak. It could be a small leak. You have to shut the compressor down long enough for the lines to thaw out and you need more freon added to the system
You should get about a 16-20 degree swing in the temp of the air coming out of the grills and the temp of the space. Stick a thermometer in a grill and see what the temp is
Another thing to look at is the safe pan under the unit. If there is water I. The pan, the float switch will be tripped and the safeties will prevent the compressor from coming on.
Check again to see if the refrigerant lines are freezing up. If they are the repair guy didn't add enough or you have a sizable refrigerant leak and the repair guys will need to fix it.

If it's icing up, you're either low on freon, have a dirty indoor coil or filter, or your indoor fan isn't working right.

If you can get to the Suction Tubing for the Compressor it should be cool and sweating. If you have or can get a Gauge it should be about 80 psig on the Suction. If you can get a Gauge on the Discharge it should be about 250 psig or so for 90F day. Make sure everything is clean. You can wash the outside unit with a Garden Hose if can get to it. Shut off the Breaker and then wash it really good. You should change your Filter every month. How old is the unit? 90F is hot but here in Saudi it is 113F and my Office is cool.

make sure your filter isnt dirty. then the next step would be to check your temps. compare temp at the intake and at the vents, should be 15-20 degrees diff. from there you can take a look at the inside coil. if you havent changed your filter regularly or use shitty filters, it may be gunked up. if that guy looks ok then take a look at your outside coils.
