Anyone have a drone?

I'm considering getting a drone and I'm wondering what brands are reliable. My brother has one, a Parrot Drone, and wants to get a Phantom II.
I have a GoPro that I'd like to attach to the drone so it doesn't need a camera.
I plan to take it backpacking with me in the mountains and take some video from atop ridges and mountain views, so it needs to be relatively lightweight. For extra fly time I would need to pack in a spare battery or two, but it should operate from my phone.
Since I'll be using it in the mountains I'd like to find out about how it handles in wind gusts.
I'm considering the Phantom by DJI Innovations but having a hard time finding the weight (website says takeoff weight <1000g but is that with or without the camera? Also it has a remote but will it also operate via a smartphone (most do).

My buddy has a blade 350 qx that is awesome. He hooks his go pro to it and has a gimbal for it. Here is a video of it LINK

these things seem cool as shite. would be awesome to bring on vacation and take some video from up in the air in the mountains and stuff.

quote:yea only the walmart catagory of drones. I have never seen anything half way decent controlled by smart phone that will hold a camera. you know for a smart phone to control it, it has to be over wifi, bluetooth, or some type of IR transmitter. None of which will get you more than a few 10s of feet away from you.
Also it has a remote but will it also operate via a smartphone (most do).
ive had the phantom for a few years they are great at first and you'll fly alot. but it does fade away, i put FPV on mine and havent flown since.

The wind was really strong that day so that's why it was so shaky

The weight of the GoPro will seriously impact your ability to fly on the cheap. Just get the AR 2.0. It has two cameras already. One is HD. Just go to YouTube and check out the videos.
