So I assume we will sign Goodwin this week

As today is June 1, different rules apply to FA signings, including the calculation for compensatory picks.
Here is a good write up on June 1 on the NFL calendar.

Good call.
Forget all about June 1sts.

Probably not, the Saints know what he can do. No reason to bring him in now during OTAs. They should be trying to get a good look of what they have now. So if he does sign it'll be before training camp starts up

Hadn't paid attention this week. Did Payton say anything about Lelito 2.0 or Golic Jr?

including the calculation for compensatory picks.
Since we haven't signed him following rookie minicamp(where they got to see the new guys and kind of determine the depth) we likely wouldn't sign him until sometime during/after training camp where we can see them in pads.
If we don't sign him at that point, you likely won't see him signed until after the 3rd preseason game(where we see the starters the most) or we won't sign him at all if not.
His signing depends on how they young guys are coming along and that's it.

That doesn't make any sense

No... it makes no sense whatsoever.
If you think he is a guy you will need to start, you lock that shite up fast.
Injuries happen to fast. Goodwin will sign the first good offer

No one else is signing a 36 year old center that is not familiar with their system. The 9ers are done with him and we are the only other team that would try to pick him up(we were his only visit).
We aren't signing him now because we are letting the young guys get the reps and the teaching. Goodwin doesn't need that.
If these guys aren't showing well in OTAs then we will bring him in during training camp. If they are showing well we wouldn't bring him in unless they struggle in preseason.
Zero reason to bring him in until at least training camp.
The signing points for him were after the draft(but we liked the guys we picked up enough not to), after rookie camp(but the guys looked good enough to not be too concerned about depth), and now after OTAs(if Lelito and/or both backups aren't picking things up) or after a few preseason games(if the guys struggle). We're not signing him in the middle of OTAs.

Everything you mentioned is prior to june 1.
Saying ZERO chance is silly.

He's a vet so he doesn't need to be here for OTAs. It's better for us to let the young guys take snaps. Even if another team has an injury I find it extremely difficult to believe that they'd call a 36 year old center with no experience in their system.
The 9ers have two younger guys(a rookie and someone they were grooming last year). The Bears have Garza and DLP(the Kromer connection). We are the only other team that would consider it. There's no market for him.
Unless the unspeakable happens to Lelito or both of our backups we are not bringing him in until training camp at the earliest.
Edit:
And I said zero reason to do it now, not zero chance. If you know what happens then we will bring him in.

So, are we cutting Bunkley now?
Posted on 6/1/14 at 1:46 pm to Hoodoo Man
He took a pay cut so we wouldn't cut him. We could have designated him as a June 1st cut before as we didn't use the designation on anyone else(you get 2 uses of it before June 1st).
Being that we didn't really pick up any other NTs outside of 1 UDFA who may not make the team, I think it's safe to say he isn't going anywhere this year.

Color me surprised. Guess someone stunk it up bad in the first week of OTAs, or they were trying to keep SF from getting a comp pick(lord knows they don't need anymore extra picks).
Have to imagine they release an Olineman to make room.

Guess Loomis forgot to read TD before making the call to Goodwin today.

I don't know about all of that. Just seems like the plan all along.
