I have a feeling this is much worse than the media has let in on. I suspect we will see lawsuits filed to open up these records by various media institutions.

Looks like the only card they could play here was to dare the FOIA request filers to lawyer up to get what they want.

You can bet that ESPN, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, USA Today, ProPublica, and a host of other media outlets see this story as a revenue generating story. Lawyers will be hired to file suits in this matter that you can take to the bank.

UO public records officer Lisa Thornton in an email cited the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, attorney-client privilege and “applicable exemptions and exclusions from the Oregon Public Records law” as reasons for the redactions.
The redactions were color-coordinated, with each color representing a different legal exemption. Text covered in “dark blue,” Thornton said, is redacted for attorney-client privilege. Text covered in green is redacted for federal privacy law, she said. Text redacted in marigold is exempt from disclosure based on an Oregon statute that allows government agencies to keep some communications secret if they can prove that the public interest in encouraging “frank communication” between government officials outweighs the public interest in disclosure.
I doubt that anything that was labeled blue or green will ever be released publicly/legally

How is a public university that is taxpayer and student tuition subsidized able to do that?

Acouple of weeks ago the 34 page report was linked on a tread. It was quite a read.

That was the police report not the OU internal correspondence involving this matter. Rumors by some in the media that the cover up involving this was on a Superbowl type stage.
