Obama accepted resignation. Interesting. Did not expect that.

quote:

But while it's clearly true that the biggest sins committed here came from deep within the bureaucracy rather than the top of the Obama administration, wrongdoing by high officials really does seem relevant in this case. Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki was right to step down. But it's unfortunate that Obama framed this as something he did reluctantly in order to help quell a political controversy.

"A few minutes ago Sec Shinseki offered me his own resignation," Obama said, With considerable regret, I accepted."

He should have fired him.

Won't make a difference, but it had to be done. Shinseki is not a bad person, he just isn't the guy to do what is necessary.

He was a veteran. It was with pleasure Barry did that.

How many military people have been fired for incompetence but he's left civilian leadership largely alone?

Patreus and Shinseki for the military side

Who has been fired from the other non-military agencies?

My opinion is that he views military personnel and veterans the way many people view squirrels running rampant in neighborhoods ... i.e. somewhat of a nuisance, but abundant, and if you run over one ... ho hum ... not a big deal.

He doesn't give a shite about vets.

That much should be obvious.

No person, including the President, can fix the VA. It is, not ironically, the perfect picture of government run health care in the United States: long waits, poor care and service, apathetic professionals, etc.

While Obama's feet should be held to the fire relative to his campaign comments on fixing the VA, I by no means blame him for the issues of the VA...they cannot be fixed.

I do, however, blame him for kicking the US health care can down the road towards this type of care for everyone.

lol this morning conservatives demanded Obama ask for his resignation. A thread was started on this. Now that he did, he's criticized for doing so.

NC can you e-prescribe mess for this condition of schyzo?

Who is criticizing him? Even you of all people are level headed enough to see this was a week late.

he was pretty much fired. its pretty rare they call these things as "firings"

But in essence it is a firing. He was told to take one for the team, and he did.

Fair comments Delta Doc. But scary part is "they cannot be fixed".

Should it be shut down. I mean really. Cannot be fixed suggests it should not exist. Surely we need to address treatment of our veterans.

Your concluding remark regarding the US Healthcare is of more concern since it has larger repercussions and costs and since it affects a much larger population.

People in the private sector get FIRED all the time.

Military Officers are RELIEVED all the time.

They don't get politely asked to quietly resign (although I will concede that in the private sector, this sometimes happens, too).

But ... if one is truly PISSED and MAD about something found out about on the news ... and you really want to make a point ... you FIRE someone.... puts everyone else on notice.
