lulz. Judges are appointed, the ones you do vote on buy those votes.

It doesn't say in the two articles I read, but it does mention that the judge stated something to the effect that, that type of punishment is outdated.

I agree. Only probation? Dude needs some serious jail time.

It doesn't say. I'd say it's appropriate for anyone above the age of 8. Anything less would be dependant on the child's maturity and the surroundings. My father used to drop my brother and I off a few miles from home about the time we were in 4th or 5th grade if we had been fighting or misbehaving. If we were fighting, he would drop my older brother a few hundred meters behind me and tell him he could whoop my arse if he caught me. He never caught me :-)

shite, i missed the bus 2 days in a row and dad made me walk the 3 miles from my house to Baker High. I got about halfway there and hitchhiked the rest of the way in. Never would have thought to have reported him. Did the kid complain, or the ex-wife?

Da frick?

Did he have high aspirations for you to rival Kenyans in distance running?

To OP

The 3 a.m. part was pointless. Obviously going to detract from his studies at school etc.

Don't care much about the brick and the walk, hopefully the dad stayed with him though. Sounds like he just dropped him off.

At 3 a.m. that's putting your child at some risk walking along the highway.

It's excessive, first degree child cruelty though? That's a bit much.

I walked over a mile to and from school everyday (weather permitting) from 3rd grade to 6th grade.

Damn I walked both ways to the bus stop most everyday of my school career. My trip was over a mile each way. Wonder if I could sue my parents for emotional damage?

People wonder why there are do many fat kids.
What a totally F'd up legal system. DA had to decide to prosecute this case. Not that judge isn't an idiot too.

had to be snowing, and the soles of the shoes so thin, he could step on a penny and tell you if it were heads or tails

i am fairly certain i would be serving time for contempt.

now if the kid was 4, yeah that might be a bit harsh of a punishment. if the kid is a teenanger, one mile is enough

Punishment? Did he make him walk 32 miles uphill in the snow?

I walked to school along about a half dozen other kids from the neighborhood everyday till I got to about 6th grade.

Where are you getting the 3AM part?

A lot of this depends on the conditions of where the kid was walking. If it's neighborhoods, I don't really see too much of a problem. Highway or long distances in between houses, probably a problem. It's kind of sad that we have to worry about child predators snatching kids off the street (is it really that likely now?). I walked home all the time from 5th grade to 9th grade.
