How well does a digital antenna work in BR? How many channels can you pick up? Any advice on what kind to buy?

Go here

Put in your address in the link I gave and it will give you an idea as to what channels you can pick up based on how far away towers are from you.

Any antenna will catch digital signals but if you're far from the tower that's broadcasting a channel you'll need more receiving power. That usually means bigger or amplified. I have a $60 old-school outdoor antenna (no amp) supported from the ceiling joists in my attic and I get about 15 channels with perfect quality on most channels. FYI, I live out in Central and most towers are more towards downtown or across the river.

You'll get up to 22 channels with an indoor antenna depending on where in the city you're located. Most of the stations have not just their main channel but 2 or 3 additional channels they broadcast on, e.g., 27-1, 27-2, 27-3, 27-4. There is no such thing as a "digital" antenna. I've gotten satisfactory results with just a plain old-fashioned rabbit ears.

I get about 15-20 channels depending on the weather.

I use one of those $30 square ones from walmarks, and put it near my window. I get:

3x PBS channels (HD, and two different regular channels)
3x ABC channels (HD, regular with different programming, and weather)
3x CBS channels (same as above)
3x NBC channels (same as above)
3x FOX channels (same as above)
1x Local/LSU channel (not in HD)
1x random channel with trashy programming
1x Jesus channel (Jimmy Swaggart I think)

So that's 8 different networks, or 18 if you count the network variations as distinct.

Add the ME channels 30.1,2,3, and 4. I'm not even sure where the transmitter is located but I get all four. They're not broadcast in HD though.

Fox and NBC broadcast on 2 channels, not 3. CBS and LPB have 4 and ABC has 3,
