Gents,

I have a real good friend retiring and I want to get him a super nice rod and reel. He is moving to the Dallas area and will be fishing lakes in that vicinity. He really enjoys fishing.

What does the OT recommend?

Revo SX ($170) and a Falcon HD 7' M/Mod ($70) spooled with 40# Suffix 832 braid. Lots of applications.

Not so much that he'd be uncomfortable.

$500-$1K?

reel: Shimano Curado or Chronarch
rod: Shimano Crucial (lifetime warranty) or if your really want a nice rod go with Dobyns Champion Extreme (great rod, shitty warranty)

I just saw your budget.
Reel: Shimano Core or new Chronarch
Rod: Dobyns Champion Extreme (can't go wrong 705 model)

With that budget I would get him a new chronarch or the core, and put it on a g-Loomis.
