OK. The video is cheesy as frick. But, once you get past that, this is some interesting shite.

It is interesting, however, I noticed they don't really talk about how much it would cost.

The idea of a ton of flat useless surfaces being used as solar panels is a cool idea...but did that jackass say they were tempered glass? Tad slippery, no?

I'm guessing a bazillion.

But, one could hope that at some point, that number comes down. Then, could be cool.

Louisiana still hasn't even halfway perfected normal roadways.

I want a solar panel on the roof of my car that will power the AC when it's hot outside.

The part about melting snow; seems great but what if it snows at night? A lot? Like a foot of snow? I'm guessing the solar panel won't be able to melt the snow off even when the sun comes up.

And the part about producing three times the amount of energy the us currently produces; there will have to be a bazillion batteries to store it for night use.

Still it's an interesting application.

there's the rub, I saw it on FB a few weeks ago and the first thing I thought was how they omitted the cost. Not saying its a bad train of thought, but I can just see how, like all lib ideas, it will be forced down regardless of cost due to the good intentions.

That's great. I'd love to do my driveway with those panels.

The video said that the solar panel lights can be programmed to mark roadways, lanes, etc.

Which means that it can be hacked.

Imagine a hacker changing the lanes and signs and whatnot.

Great. A EE who thinks he can build roads.

It's probably safe to say that since we can't build regular freaking roads that last, building an electric one is probably a stretch. Wouldn't it be easier to put them on roofs? Roofs don't have 80-thousand-pound trucks driving over them.

They also said in the video how the economy is doing bad and the production of these panels can create a ton of jobs which would be great for the economy!

Yeah, because jobs in and of themselves is what makes an economy strong...

Yeah I don't see the practicality of changing out all the asphalt for these. Just a couple short drives for businesses or homes.

I really like the idea, it is a pretty badass concept. However, as has been pointed out, far from a ready product. In the future though, could be cool.

this reminds me of my daughter's plans to put wind turbines on cars to power them. Just not quite thought out.

Would they still have to spend three months re-surfacing a one mile stretch every two years?

If a post has the word, "solar" in it, the knee-jerk reaction from the board will be to poo-poo it.

how much revenue do solar companies bring into the treasury to be spent on political pet projects vs. an Exxon? Oh that's right, they are the pet projects that consume the revenue. Maybe when they start pulling their fairshare they won't get poo-poo'd any more.
