Started watching the series after finishing the miniseries "The Corner"
The realism in this series is unmatched imo. This wasn't like Breaking Bad where I could binge watch five or six episodes over the weekend. Many times some of the episodes made me feel uncomfortable [Ex. Michael's step dad's demise, Butchie & Bodie's finale scene] . I'd usually have to take a break and watch/read something funny. For now, I'll rank it as the best HBO series I've watched [I still haven't gotten into The Sopranos or GoT.]
If I had to rank the seasons they would be in this order:
Season 1
Season 3
Season 2
Season 5
Season 4
Also, who were your favorite/least characters on the series?

I think the reason I have S5 ahead of of S4 is because its fresh in my mind at the moment. That's not to say that I think S4 is complete sh*t.

Season 3 and 4 are better than 5.

Favorite - Omar or Cutty
Least - Probably Bodie and Poot because they killed Wallace.

I strongly disagree with your ranking of s4. It might have been my favorite. The kids stories were just so tragic.

13245 for me.
I would take me a minute to think about least favorite characters. Omar, Brother Mouzone, Bunk and Bodie for favorites.

Four last? Wow.
It's #1 or 2 for me.
Also, these were some of my thoughts from my thread here after I finished the show:
quote:
Fantastic show. I had always heard pretty much nothing but good things about it, and people always tout it as "OMG best show evar!!" and all that, so I was a bit apprehensive going in because I didn't want to expect too much. And all in all, it's just great. Definitely lived up to most expectations I had and I had heard from others.
Funny thing is, it's hard to explain why it's so good; it just kinda is. I mean, the tons of different plot lines are almost all interesting, the characters are fantastic, the acting is great, etc. But those are pretty general things...it's hard to say specifically why the show is so good. I had read an overall synopsis of the series and saw that each season focused on a different aspect of the city (drug trade, seaport, government bureaucracy, school system, and print media) and was worried that some seasons would struggle compared to others...but that really didn't happen. Aside from maybe a few of the plots, I pretty much liked it all.
That's what's so cool about it...it's hard to explain why it's so good; it just is.

Best seasons (or should I say my favorite) are 1 and 4...I really liked the whole dynamic of the Barksdale organization, and season 4 with the kids was really interesting to me.
As for characters:
quote:
Favorite character overall is prolly Cutty for me. Other favorites are Bubbles, Omar, Stringer, Slim Charles, Bodie, Chris Partlow, and Marlo. Least favorite is Snoop (by a fricking TON...she fricking sucked bad), Cheese, Greggs, Daniels's wife, Clay Davis (sheeeeeeeeeeeeet....), Namond Brice, and prolly a few more I can't think of.
Then I said this:
quote:
As far as the best show ever, I'm not so sure...but it's definitely up there, no doubt. And I feel like the more I reflect on it and think about it, the more I'll like it. Anyway, thanks to the M/TV Board over the years for talking this show up to the point where I felt like I finally had to check it out, cuz I'm really glad I did. It's awesome.
...and the more I've reflected about it over the months and years, I have it as the #1 best show I've ever seen. Maybe not my all-time favorite show, but definitely the best I've seen. And that still holds true even after getting through Breaking Bad last year.
Phenomenal television.

Cutty and Bubs for the story arcs are favorites.
Prez's father-in-law I guess is my least favorite.

Also, might wanna put "spoilers" in the title since the show will be discussed.

quote:Well this is one of the reasons why I felt down after watching s4. I guess I was hoping for a "light at the end of tunnel" type of scenario for all the kids and clearly that wasn't going to happen [It's one of the reasons why I took a long hiatus before watching s5].

I was shocked that Namond ended up not heading down the wrong path. Especially after noticing one of his friends boosting cars in his neighborhood. Also, the situation with Wagstaff & Michael was depressing.
Also, did any of you find the path that Duke ended up going down a bit odd?

That's why the show is so great, because real life isn't always full of rainbows and flowers, and sometimes reality just sucks. So for some characters (like Dukie) to end on such a downer is just plain how life works a lot of times. Dukie's journey is one of my favorite on the show. He was SUCH a good kid and smart kid, and wanted to be liked and all that. And if he could've just gotten a chance before it was too late, he could've pushed through and made something of himself...but in the end, he didn't make it and drugs took him. And by the time Prez gave him some help, he was already too far gone. Sure, it was gut-wrenching, but that kinda shite happens every day.

Not really, he had the least hope of any of the kids.
The finale for season 4 makes me want to cry. Really powerful television. Randy's situation like you said and the scene where Carver has to walk away from him. Also, the scene where Bubbles breaks down when Waylon walks in the room almost makes me want to cry just remembering it.

quote:I went into the series completely blind for the most part [I knew that it was about drug war.] . I know that s2 caught some flack on here because it was completely different from the platform that s1 laid out. Personally, I loved the diverse parts of this series and it kept the plot refreshing.
