Teacher accused of sexual encounter with student

An H.L. Bourgeois High School teacher and boys track coach was arrested today for having a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old male student, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said.
Derrick Nesby, 37, of New Orleans, was arrested at school when he returned to pick up his personal property, Larpenter said. He faces a charge of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
Nesby denies the allegations, the sheriff said.
On May 9, Terrebonne Parish detectives received a complaint regarding allegations of Newby being involved with one of his students, Larpenter said. Detectives questioned and released him before obtaining an arrest warrant.
Due the victim's age and the nature of the investigation, there will not be any further information released at this time, Larpenter said. This matter remains under investigation
