my pops bought this bad boy in '91, one of the best mowers ever made ...model c21zpr ....

anyway, out of the blue it has started where it sounds fine at low speed idle, but as soon as I move the throttle up it starts sounding like it's flooding... put it on the grass and it wants to die with any cutting...no power... i cleaned the air filter, swapped the spark plug, and pulled the carb and cleaned it and sprayed out every air hole I saw on thing...pretty much the same symptoms...what next ?

Check the banjo bolt that holds the bowl onto the carb. I learned the hard way that the ports in that bolt get clogged and cause similar symptoms like you described.

I had taken the carb off and cleaned it and still had the same problem. Brought it to a small engine mechanic and that was the problem.

Use some fishing line or copper wire to run through the ports on the bolt and clean it out.

wow we just threw one like that away a few months ago...the self propel system on it would break a few times every year...back wheels would be almost locked up to where you could not push it...motor was a beast and running great...just got tired of the constant repair bills...

What octane of gas are you using needs to be around 87. What 2 cycle oil are you using.

I don't think that bolt has a port, but I will look

If the bolt goes up through the center it should. The bolt threads into the jet opening. Fuel is pulled through the ports in the bolt, up through it and into the jet.

At least... That's how every push mower carb I've taken apart has worked... Never worked on a lawn boy though.

this and the spark plug is always my first thing to try...one of the two fixes the problem 85% of the time...also, if you have been running ethanol gas in it, don't run another drop without some fuel treatment in every tank full..

ok, I cleaned out the fuel filter and the gas line ...I noticed the felt like gasket between the air housing and the carb was uneven and wearing away ...that could be it...gonna try to find a new one
