Texans coach Bill O’Brien joked Wednesday he’s not ready to place rookie running back Alfred Blue in the Pro Bowl. But it’s clear after rookie minicamp and the initial two days of OTAs the Texans are impressed with their sixth-round pick from Louisiana State.

Arian Foster is the Texans’ primary runner but is coming off midseason back surgergy. The 6-foot-2, 222-pound Blue is competing with Andre Brown and Dennis Johnson, among others, for backup time.

“He’s doing pretty well. He’s a guy that came in here as a talented young player that has shown us early on — very early now, OK? So we’re not sending him off to the Pro Bowl just yet,” O’Brien said at NRG Stadium. “But he’s able to learn and he’s got some instincts and he so far he seems like a good team guy. I’ve enjoyed being around him.”

Happy for Cheese. He had some tough times at LSU with the house fire and the knee injury. I hope he has a long NFL career.

I hope he find some quality playing time. A lot of these guys just need an opening to display their talent.

In hindsight, we wasted a lot of talent stacked up at running back. Imagine if we'd switched Hilliard and Blue to linebacker early on.

Then they both wouldn't have played at all.

Kenny wouldn't have stayed at LSU if he wouldnt have been playing running back.

If he is 100% now I think he will, can absolutely play special teams also.

He does - I remember him making some pretty impressive tackles this past season

Awesome...

I have no doubt that he will make the roster due to his special team abilities and attitude. But it would be awesome to see him get a few series early on.

Looks like he tacked on a little mass as well.

Blue will make a team if he's 100% healthy throughout camp.
Good back, does everything well.

Sure wish either he or Hill had returned, but completely understand.

Blue was always a strong runner he just was not Jeremy Hill. He was put behind by the knee it looks like he is getting over it now.
