Alex smith wants top tier money

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports contract-year QB Alex Smith is asking the Chiefs for "top-tier" quarterback money in an extension.
Hence the reason contract talks are "going nowhere," according to multiple reports. The Bears recently gave Jay Cutler an annual average of $18.1 million, and Smith is both younger and coming off of a better 2013 season than Cutler, all things considered. The National Football Post's Jason Cole tweeted Wednesday that Smith "wanted a deal above Jay Cutler" in January, and Cole "can't imagine that has changed." The Chiefs would be smart to let Smith play one more season under Andy Reid before breaking the bank to keep him. If Smith takes another big step forward, the franchise tag could come into play.

Kaep deserves it before Alex smith

I'd rather give that money to Blaine Gabbert than Alex Smith.

Did Murray go to the chiefs?

Not really, but you get what I mean.

Good luck with that, Alex.
He's better than Cutler these days, but the Bears paid Cutler an insane amount of money so that they didn't have to go dumpster-diving for a QB to get them through mediocrity.
I have a feeling that Andy Reid could take any remotely competent QB and put together enough of an offense in KC to do well against the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, and other soft teams on their schedule.

They play the NFC West and AFC East this season. Not a lot of soft teams.

He'll get it if the Chief's let him walk.

Well...I would have been more productive than Jay Cutler over the last five years, so I'm not sure that is much of an argument, Alex.

proof the NFL has too many teams and not enough QBs...

What exactly is top tier money for a starting NFL QB? If Smith is not worth top tier money, just how much is he worth? Designating Smith with the franchise tag guarantees Smith almost $17 million for one year. That is just about where Smith wants to be.

if he was worth 17 million, the team would give him that...

If let Daniel or Murray play next year before I'd pay Alex Smith 17 a year

So do I.
And i'm just as likely to get it as he is.
