whatever happened with September getting shot and dying? Did that get reset somehow? How is he alive and well (and human) in the future..?

I don't recall him being 100% dead. Maybe just mostly dead. Don't you remember, he was laying on the table in harvard and the other Observers swooped in and grabbed him. I seem to recall they watched the vid in slow motion. I just assumed the super high tech keystone cops healed him.

Nope. Michael was created with Observer DNA. It took the refinement over hundreds of years to get to Michael so I don't see how Michael proves anything other than the project worked. At some point the observer lack of emotion leads to a superior brain at which point emotion could be added back. As I said, I'm a stickler on this. Michael was not a human that had intellect and emotion. He was an OBSERVER with DNA from normal run of the mill emotionless parents. You could not ever get to Michael without first changing humanity into observers.

Say what? I understand that...I'm not saying that he wasn't created from Obs DNA. I'm saying that he was the anomaly because they were trying to increase brain capacity and all that and were trying to better their race, and he was discarded because he was different and wasn't their goal. However, he ultimately was more than what they were aiming for, AND he was able to do it and still have emotion. But that still wasn't what the Obs had set out to create (which is why he was labeled as an anomaly). That's the whole point...they want to get him to the doc and prove show Michael off and prove to him (and others) that the Obs could be capable of the higher brain functions and still have emotion.

The problem comes in when it's not confirmed that that was the intention of the experiments in the first place.

ETA: I think we're on different pages...I think I see what you're saying...this is from Fringepedia:
quote:

In The Boy Must Live, the other Observers remove his tech implant from his neck and experiment on him. Due to this, he became a human with emotions and hair. He assumed the name of Donald O'Connor after watching the movie Singin' In The Rain with Walter. Donald and Walter worked on a plan to defeat the Observers. They want to bring September's offspring, Michael, to 2167 to show the scientists that they don't have to sacrifice emotions for intelligence. If the plan is successful, the Observers will never exist and therefore not invade the planet.

But you're saying that it isn't true since he didn't come straight from humans...he came from Observer DNA and therefore one can't exist without the other.

I don't know what to think about that.

True. I forgot that he had vanished.

If I can get my paper done I'll get in the discussion soon, but it probably won't be till tomorrow. This is the last discussion so we can discuss this for 3 weeks if we wanted to.

Agreed. And I still haven't watched the finale, and likely won't be able to until Sunday evening at the earliest.

So I'm down for discussion.

Simple. Without ancient cavemen, we wouldn't exist today. It took the changes in humanity then observers to get Michael. I would argue he proves the scientists right. Taking emotion out, allowed brains to explode in potential. I don't see them changing a thing when Walter shows up.

Also as mentioned... big time travel problem. If the observers never existed then neither did Michael so you get the whole TT paradox headache.

the observers are still technically human. I would be interested in a miniseries that explains explained how they manipulated the human gene and brain in order to prepare it for the technology

Not sure when I will hit the finale.

House of Cards drops tomorrow and I'll burn through that before I watch the finale.

Maybe Sunday.

finally got to it let the discussion begin.

Fringe final episode

I must start by saying this, any time you mess with time you have a whole host of problems, well most stuff this season has holes when it comes to time travel. One example if no observers exist than Peter isn't saved from the lake, actually Walternate would have cured Peter, so Peter would never come to the other side. No Peter and Olivia, no child who would than take the crew out of amber. Etc. Observers are necessary for anything to happen.

Nooooooooooooooooooo not Broyles. They don't kill him?

September will meet him in the future?

Oh boy they flowing Broyles, he gone.

Don't think Walter wanted him to see it, oh well

That's helpful, tell her to shut up.

Asrto saves the day

Gene

Some sweet moments in this episode.

That may be one of the sweetest moments of the show. "it's a lovely name Astrid" almost made me cry.

Of course they have to do Fringe events before they go.

Looks like the loyalists are as good as shots as storm troopers

LINK

Olivia just did what? Wow

Almost cried again for Peter and Walter's last parting.

Solid finale despite all the problems with time travel and the observers great end to a great show.

Watched a pile of stuff over the weekend...

But none of it turned out to be the finale.

I'll watch tonight...

I've been delaying the end of this thread with my procrastination.

Yeah, same here, though I was out of town all weekend like I said the other day. I hope to get to the finale tonight, especially now that ctf has watched it.

Same here. I think part of my procrastination of watching the finale is because I know this thread will be coming to an end, and that honestly makes me a little bit sad.

Nope.

Was out of town all weekend, had bball Sunday night, Monday night I had DVR to catch up with, Tuesday night I had the hospital, last night LSU bball game. I am free tonight, but will likely have lots of DVR to watch.

I really think part of me is putting it off so this thread doesn't die. I will try to watch this though either tonight or during the day tomorrow after I'm off work.
