My parents house is taking on some water this morning with all the rain... They asked me to pick up some dehumidifiers for them since I am in Baton Rouge. Any recommendations or specifications I should look at? Any help appreciated! Will be going to Lowes/Home Depot after lunch today.

I like it. shite, buy some sheetrock and some paint while you're at it. Tell your parents I admire their can-do attitude. Some people would be freaking out for days if their house flooded.

Rent them at your local tool rental place

Right now it's just isolated to a couple of rooms and only about in inch, so they are hoping for the best I guess. I'll do whatever I can to help.

50 gallon per day at minimum but they won't do much if the house is flooded badly.

They are all really the same outside of that. Just find a decent priced unit. The 30GPD start around $180 but last I checked Lowes and HD don't actually keep them in stores anymore and moved them to a special order item.

Maybe check Sears too.

I put them in repo houses all the time to help fight mold but it doesn't do as much as people think.

We had a large one the apt complex gave us when our apt flooded last month and ran it for 4 days straight and it didn't do much. Still had mold all over the place and we have since moved

At my parents house, I ran a bunch of carpet drying fans after I pulled everything outside, ripped out Sheetrock, and sprayed studs with bleach. Dunno how well it kept mold out because they sold the place, but it definitely dried out within two days(5000sqft).

I also opened all of the windows and doors to let fresh air flow through

Bleach and Kilz is the best cheap way to stop mold from growing but that's really just for surface growth. With flooding the only way to remedy it is to remove what got wet and start fresh.

At just one inch of water though they haven't had any insulation get too yet. Just the 2x4 bottom plate.

Yep. We hit it with bleach and knocked it back a little but they asked if I wanted to stay if they "repair some of the walls"

I said hell no. We had 7" in our entire apt

Fans also work great to help with drying...
