FDR second bill of rights

quote:
We have come to a clear realization of the fact that true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. “Necessitous men are not free men.” People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.
In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed.
Among these are:
The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;
The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
The right of every family to a decent home;
The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;
The right to a good education.
I'm not sure what is scarier- the fact that this was a president speaking, or his naive belief that people would actually work if they were given everything for free.

And FDR is continually held up as one of the most iconic presidents of this country when he's actually one of the worst ever, if not the very worst.
The school textbook story that his new deal ended the great depression is one big myth of revisionist propaganda, it actually prolonged the depression and made it worse. Some a-hole politician didn't end the American Great depression, Winning WW2 did that by ending the new deal and putting money into shite that actually matters along with the drastic cut in gov't spending.

That and the fact that most of our competition's industrial bases (both allies and enemies) were devasted by the war. Ours was intact and expanded. So when the war ended we had huge advantages.

He's definitely one of the very worst, if not the worst.

I have a sneaking suspicion that history will show the current one will take that title.

Perhaps. But I think the current one is too incompetent to have as many lasting harmful legacies as FDR does. I'd rather have an incompetent, ineffective one than a competent president with a harmful agenda.

Text books used to worship Woodrow too, if I remember correct.

Looks like it could have been written by Lenin

At least I agree with this one

This one too.

He was a socialist piece of shite. His policies hurt us even to do this day.

The sad thing is that history textbooks and classrooms tout him as one of the greatest presidents ever

Change “right” to privilege and you have a powerful and useful document.

Government mismanagement is the main threat to this anyway, especially with Obama going after coal mining.
quote:
The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
already have it (but again government policies are the main threat)
quote:
The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
impossible utopian crap
quote:
The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
see above
quote:
The right of every family to a decent home;
see above
quote:
The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
already have (or had) the opportunity, the 'right' is more utopian garbage
quote:
The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;
everyone has the right to plan for old age already, its up to you. There is no right to have someone else do it for you.
quote:
The right to a good education.
again, you have to right to seek education, but the work and how good it is, is on you

We were in the worst depression in our history for his ENTIRE presidency...yet Liberals claim he had great economic policies.
On the one hand, it's tough to blame them for thinking this, because they were taught "what" to think in government run schools. On the other hand, how much more fricking obvious does it need to be that he was terrible?

They are hand in hand. O couldn't have done a fricking thing if fdr would have created that group of losers

I attended one of the most conservative public school districts in the country and even then our history classes taught that FDR was an amazing leader with great policies.

I think he was good with the war, but bad on the economy and growth of government. It took me thirty years to overcome my 'education' that he was great on everything.

And who is to blame for the state of education in this country?
The government. They can't get out of their own way trying to please both every whim of every political faction regardless if they have kids, combined with the teachers union.

FDR basically wanted the government to provide good paying jobs for everyone. We have a word for a society in which the government employs everyone...
