Sort of spinoff: should some waterways have boat restrictions?
Posted by ToulatownTiger on 5/27/14 at 4:54 pm00
In another thread, talking about bigger boats on small rivers and such. My questions are,
1. Should there be some laws created restricting certain boats from navigating smaller rivers (looking at you cigs on natalbany)
2. Should there be zones created to where skiing/tubing can be done.
Doing this would be kinda liberal, but with boats getting bigger, and the drivers dumber, would you go for this?

Get rid of all the kayaks

As long as it's done by the State, and not some yocal board or commision, I'd be ok with it.

Yes, I would go for boat size restrictions. I'm as conservative as can be, but when one of those idiots in the big arse cigar boats/cabin cruisers come down Little Chene Blanc with the nose in the air you can't get away from them without going in the trees.
Either that, or just allow us to shoot those idiots when they run people off the river.

And no idle zones. Keep your shite on plane!

Yes. Gay kayaks shouldn't be allowed anywhere men fish.

I was on/semi-drove a barge through a skinny arse canal in the basin. It was definitely too big. Kept slinging into the trees every time we turned. If another boat would've been coming, they would have had to be almost on the bank to get around us

No. If water is navigable then all boats should be allowed.
BUT I do think there should be speed limits or no wake zones set by USCG or LDWF for certain areas.
It's stupid for cig boats to haul arse through smaller rivers.

I can't speak for all areas or even most, but I would like to see a few changes on the Diversion. We have A LOT of boat traffic and get a lot of boats with limited boating experience. I would like to see the following restrictions on Spring and summer weekends only.
1) Speed limit of 35 mph
2) No tubers or skiers/ wake boarders, etc on the Diversion of lower Blind River between Blind River Bar and the Lake. Even on busy days there are areas on the Lake, Amite and Blind Rivers that have less traffic and can be used for such activities. Jet Ski tomfoolery needs to be restricted to these areas also.

They have them now, but like a hunter's education course people are grandfathered, for boater's it is 1984...

How many folks u see o. A given day have NO business behind the helm

I've got mine
I do also, the FIL called me up one day asking my SSN, etc. Had no idea what he was doing till he handed me my licence later. He was a tug boat captain and knew all the answers...

That boaters safety was hard. I passed by 1% cheating. It was about driving a cruise ship, not a bass boat
I agree with you wick. Only problem is policing all of it

I've have my boaters safety but I don't think it is very practical as far as helping normal boaters
Yes it is sort of difficult but you wouldn't want a guy who has never been around any type of boat to study for it and pass it to then get on a 20 ft ski boat or even jet ski without some other guidance

If you have the cash you can go buy whatever damn boat you want no experience required. I do not agree with the boater license as that does not allow one to really get any watercraft experience till they are older. Hell i had my first outboard powered boat at 9 yrs old. That said i also do not think you should be able to get a DUI while on the water. If there isn't a license required how can it transfer to your truck? Also these aren't state highways these bayous weren't man made. Making speed restrictions on waterways isn't as simple as on the highway. All boats do not get on plane at the same speed and their wake varies greatly by displacement. Best they can do is no wake zones but that shouldn't mean every damn canal with a camp. Boat ramps yes but just because you build a camp that doesn't entitle you to a no wake zone buy some damn fenders. /rant

so just let people do what they please regardless of dangers to others.
