It's a piece of Crap or the connection is.

At least three times a day my service disconnects. No red lights, just stops. I call and they have me unplug and reboot. Works every time, but highly frustrating. I'm needing to hook up my security skagen so I'll need port forwarding and I'd like that to be as easy as possible.

Two things, does it sound like it's a router issue or a connection issue? And what is a good quality stable router in the under $200 range. Preferably with 6 ethernet connections.

You should unplug and reboot before calling methinks.

I'm not sure Uverse allows other routers. I think you have to choose from the handful of routers they authorize.

They do..Just set theirs to bridge mode or turn off the DHCP...Plug in your router...Enjoy

ETA: This is only in regards to you being stuck with their modem

This.

I never had any technical issues with their gateway, but it was only wireless G (this was 3 years ago). The gateway I had (still have, for TV only) required me to put my router in DMZ+ through their gateway manually, but I imagine it's gotten more user-friendly.

You can try this, but this doesn't do much for my ATT DSL.
You can call them, the person on the phone will insist you reboot the modem. Once it reboots, like magic it works, but only for a few hours. You then call again and they will send a technician, he will find something to tweak and will promise you all is well. Few days later, the intermittent service returns and you start the process again. It is an endless cycle in my experience.

I've had this router for a year now. Have never had a problem with it and goes for $99.

I have an airport express. It works great. Has dual band. Only has 1 hard wired. Extreme has 4 I think.

Definitely worth it. Apple made a quality product.
