Shinguardian put out a pretty extensive preview, so I figured that I might as well start the game thread now.

He brings up an interesting point about the defense.

If Brooks were to start with Besler in the center, then we could put Cameron at RB, Chandler at LB, and Fab at LM.

Based on how Brooks has looked in a US jersey, I would be very scared to use him. I guess a friendly against Azerbaijan is about as low risk as it gets from this point forward.

However, I would focus more on the midfield and offense, seeing if Bedoya is a good fit at LM (or Zusi at LM and Bedoya at RM). If that's the case, we can comfortably go with Fab at LB, along with Chandler, Cameron, and Besler in defense.

Thankfully we have time to experiment. Did you read the article though? Yeah, the Ukraine game was crap but that was crap for everyone. He actually looked pretty good against Bosnia and Herzegovina. One goal was offside and shouldn't have counted and the other came down to EJ giving the ball away right in front of the box.

True. Brooks hasn't been paired with Besler in the central defense ever, I feel like it would be good to at least try out.

Jozy
Fab Deuce Zus
Bradley Jones
Chandler Besler Brooks Geoff

If training is an indication #USMNT starting XI : Howard; Johnson, Cameron, Besler, Beasley; Bradley, Jones, Zusi, Dempsey, Bedoya; Altidore

Zusi on the right, Bedoya on the left. Beasley at leftback, Fabian Johnson at rightback.

Why bring in Timmy Chandler if you aren't seriously entertaining the idea of putting him at RB?

Isn't the whole point of starting Johnson on the back line is to get Beasley out of the LB?

I think Klinsmann realizes we don't have a solid enough backline to play Ghana and Portugal straight. I guess he figures he puts enough pace on the backline with Beasley and Fabian he can keep up with those team's wingers, and then just man mark Ronaldo and Gyan or Kevin Prince-Boateng with Jones.

Although, I can't imagine Beasley being that much faster than Chandler at this point. Hell, I think the fastest player in our squad is probably DeAndre Yedlin.

So what happens if Julian Green scores a hat trick off the bench in the second half. Does the board completely change its tune?

I doubt it. The hard-on for Landon from 4 years ago is real.
