He'll be in NO this summer and I've always heard he's one of the best perfomers ever. Seeing him is on my bucket list.

Also, does he perform old songs or only recent music?

No, but I have been informed I will be going to Essence Fest to see him this summer... I'm not really sure how I feel about this..

Yup that's where I'm headed. Prince tickets are ridiculously expensive and I feel like this will be my cheapest bet to see him.

That being said, I would hate to go thru the experience of NO in July and Prince pull some stunt and only perform songs written in 2012 or some other such nonsense. I wanna here classics

One of the best performances I've seen.

Highly recommend seeing him.

I've been to many, many concerts and play music for a living. Best concert I've ever seen. Unreal. Played a lot of old stuff all 3 times I've seen him.

He's my favorite solo artist of all time and is on my bucket list to see.

But I'm hesitant to get tickets to this Essence Festival to see him. I have no idea if he's even performing a full set, and also, I've seen that it's being billed as "Prince and other Special guests". So I can easily see this being him playing maybe 1 or 2 classics and a bunch of new stuff with some randoms.

So I think I'm going to hold and wait for him to launch a concert tour and hope he comes back to the area.

This is exactly what I'm concerned about. I'm only going to see Prince and while a couple of guest is cool I agree that I don't want 1 or 2 classics and then a bunch of new songs

I was there too. Seems like a million years ago. He was incredible.

Also saw him in the Superdome during Purple Rain tour.

I missed the one in the Superdome in 85 because I-10 froze over and my mom wouldn't let me go.
Saw him twice in 97, though--Cajun Dome and Lakefront Arena. Amazing.

I saw him 2007 ish in Dallas at the AAC and he absolutely kicked arse. First thing he said as he came out onstage was that we were lucky he was in a good mood then rocked balls for the next 2+ hrs. His band was sick - remember the drummer was especially bad arse - would highly recommend seeing him live if given the opp

Yes. You will shake your money maker.

He is more comfortable in front of 15k people than he is in front of 1.

I saw him twice in 2004 - once in Biloxi, and then I decided to go to Essence Fest to see him about 3 months after that. I was so impressed that I went to Essence solo - I didn't care.

You will absolutely get a full show at Essence, no worries on that end.

As far as I know, he's been playing plenty of stuff that you will recognize, so it won't be the kind of show he was doing in the late 90's, with very frustrating set lists.

So pull up your boot straps and go experience Essence Fest - you'll be safe. You should enjoy the hell out of the show.

I definitely want to go on Friday to see Prince and Nile Rodgers. Problem is the ticket prices. The decent seats are $400. I could sit in the nosebleeds for $70, but I feel like that would take away from the experience. I'm going to keep an eye on Stubhub and Craigslist and try to find a deal.
