Apparently it's easier to get dual citizenship if you have citizenship in another country first then acquire US citizenship later.
Other countries have much stricter laws regarding becoming a citizen of their country and of course those laws vary country by country. (Not that I'm an expert on immigration laws by any stretch of the imagination.)

Yes, know a guy that got citizenship in Italy…he did have to do all the leg work to prove his family was from there. I believe he had to trace back a few generations.

As someone else said, I think it is much easier to do if you are a citizen of another country first.
I used to work with a group that had a lot of British business people in it, and this topic came up one day. One comment was if you are a British subject, you can come to the US and request citizenship. You go through the process and when you are sworn in you have to relinquish any foreign citizenship.
After that, you simply go back to the UK gov't and say you want to restore your British citizenship and they are like "Sure, no problem."

There is nothing that prevents an individual from claiming dual citizenship, but if a US citizen obtains a foreign citizenship through naturalization that would likely be an act that would qualify to forfeit US citizenship, assuming the feds actually pursued the matter. Now days the US usually tries to avoid divestiture of US citizenship because of tax consequences (they would no longer be able to tax foreign income and holdings of the individual).
Basically the US permits dual citizenship but formally only acknowledges the US citizenship of an individual for most legal purposes (taxes, voting, etc).
I have spent some time researching this issue because I am eligible to claim Italian citizenship through my paternal great grandfather. I just haven't really had the time or extra money to hunt down and obtain all the documents necessary (birth, death, marriage certificates, etc) which also have to be certified "apostille" by the Louisiana Secretary of State.

My father was from India, and I can't get this.
Also, Ghana offers citizenship to African diaspora but AAs can't get it.

I believe only people with strictly U.S. citizenship should be allowed to hold official government and political positions...for reasons involving national security.
...and UK, Canadian, and/or Israeli citizens should be no exception. We have WAY too many Israeli citizens in Congress and there shouldn't be any IMO.

Had a friend in college who had dual citizenship in Germany and the US. He had to go serve a year or 2 in the German military due to conscription I believe. He didn't have to, but if he didn't go he'd have had to give up his German citizenship. I think he was ROTC at LSU as well and planning on being an officer after school. Not 100% on the ROTC though. Just seems like I remember him being a cadet.

India does not allow dual citizenship. Indians who naturalize here must turn in their Indian passport immediately.

If that's not pandering then I don't know what is?

How does this work for taxes. Can you claim you are a citizen of least tax country?
