In 1994, in my Iowa village, I had a nasty bout with chiggers. If you don't know what a chigger is, it's not good.

My mother convinced me that clear finger nail Polish was basically like penicillin and that it was fine to dab on my adolescent scrotum to root them out from their new home.

Oh, the horror.

People in modern times using ancient Indian Ayurvedic medicine is just hilarious.

They start telling me about their body style and how they shouldn't eat spicy because their body 'runs hot' in athletic events.

Oh, and breathing techniques based on their modhi

Neti Pots. Nobody is pouring salt water up my nose. I might get a brain amoeba, for one thing. And for another... it's just not right.

Also, ear candling. That's weird.

Praying the sickness away instead of treating it.

Dumbest. Idea. Ever.

ETA: I don't do it. I read abou it a few times when the victims were children and they died.

Aside for the fact that it does nothing useful and there are risks involved, nothing.

Well, massage is relaxing and may improve performance.

Acupuncture, well, this is what a researcher said...

quote:

Acupuncture studies have shown that it makes no difference where you put the needles. Or whether you use needles or just pretend to use needles (as long as the subject believes you used them). Many acupuncture researchers are doing what I call Tooth Fairy science: measuring how much money is left under the pillow without bothering to ask if the Tooth Fairy is real.
