Student-athletes who enter a Division I school “on or after August 1, 2016” will not be eligible to play if their grade point average is below 2.3 when they graduate from high school. Additionally, a student-athlete must complete ten of their 16 “core courses” before the seventh semester of their senior year. If they do not meet these requirements, the student-athlete will take an “academic redshirt”

Of course, athletes must also continue to meet the minimum 2.0 GPA while attaining the sliding scale requirement for SAT and ACT scores, but when the GPA falls between 2.0 and 2.3, the academic redshirt comes into play.

Wow, I wonder if there is anything they can do post-graduation to offset this?

How many players do we typically sign with GPAs below 2.3?

Ya, I feel like ACT scores are usually what we are waiting on... Maybe thats just because of the sliding scale.

So would this program have caused Eddie Lacy to have to redshirt his first year?

So no more Eddie Lacys magically making up multiple years of work on top of their normal senior year.

Because it's easier to skate through a bad school with a decent GPA than it is to make a decent score on a national standardized test.

What's racist about requiring all incoming students to demonstrate likely ability to do college work?

If the colleges themselves actually want to end cheating, all they have to do is pass a ruling giving the NCAA the power to subpoena any school and any of its coaches and deans, any present or past athletes themselves, any tutors and past or present teachers, anybody of the groups who would be in a position to have contact with student-athletes, ala TAF. imagine what would come out when the all of the cheating was out in the open. Man, it would make great reading. Where is the IRS ? Well, maybe they're after all you people who have not enrolled in Obamacare. I think the end result would be the end on the NCAA as we know it.

Good. I went to public hs and it was a joke. Blows my mind these kids can't make grades. You'd have to think the majority of these cases would have been a wasted scholarship anyway. If you struggle in hs, they will struggle to keep grades in college and most likely will end up at juco any way.

It's great for LSU..... We now require smart athletes nothing wrong with that. We are moving in that direction anyway. Love it
