Ricketts sees negotiating with the rooftops is a lost cause and goes ahead with private renovation of Wrigley.

No response from Beth Murphy yet, which marks the longest she's stayed silent.

Yea...i wonder if there is enough (based on the very few parts of their contract that have surfaced) to get an injuction, or if it will be allowed to continue then if the rooftops win could be calcualted purely as damages.
ETA: Wonder how long ago the video was filmed. Ivy is dormant in the video and it's very much alive at the ballpark now.

I haven't kept up with it, but what arguments are the rooftop owners trying to use in order to stop this?
Is there a contract that was signed between them and the organization allowing them a clear view of the field so that they could make money off of the team?

Why would the origination sign that contract?

There is a contract, the above is the language they cite.
Here is, by all account, where the perverbial rubber meets the road though.
quote:
6.6 The Cubs shall not erect windscreens or other barriers to obstruct the views of the Rooftops, provided however that temporary items such as banners, flags and decorations for special occasions, shall not be considered as having been erected to obstruct views of the Rooftops. Any expansion of Wrigley Field approved by governmental authorities shall not be a violation of this agreement, including this section.
after a lot of bickering by the cubs and the alderman representing the rooftops the city councel passed the cubs plan for renovation.

I've been a life long cubs fan and by how the organization has been run throughout my existence, I am not surprised that they were stupid enough to do this

So did the city council or other entities approve the expansion?
Seems pretty cut and dry

No, they have not yet. That's why they have the petition going and are making a big deal about trying to get approval for the work.

yes...painstakingly. Landmarks, small city council, and finally the full city council.

I think the argument that the rooftops will make will be that adding signage isn't an 'expansion.' But they're also bumping the walls out. I think the cubs will prevail.
Don't let the 'rah rah but there's a contract' crowd who havne't bothered to really read up on it fool you.

Unless you're refering to the 'proceed with the original plan' ricketts refered to

I'm so tired of the parasite rooftop owners. they feed and feed off the cubs and fight to keep their suckers dug as far as they possibly can until they suck it dry, the team moves to Rosemont or whatever, and then what do those shitheads have? They'd have a better chance of developing new business with the stadium there and a few obstructed views than they would with no stadium at all. then again, i don't give a shite about them, so i guess they could all go belly up tomorrow.
Everything I've seen shows the Ricketts really wanting to keep the character of Wrigley while bringing it into the 1990's, .

Chicago Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts today announced the team’s plan to move forward with the Wrigley Field Restoration and Expansion Plan in order to deliver on the team’s long-standing promise to win a World Series Championship.
In a video message to fans, Ricketts explained why expanding Wrigley Field is a critical element to building a winner on the field.
They should have done this at least 80 years ago!

Well they stalled trying to avoid litigation from the rooftops for so long it gets forgotten...also got a little covered up by the night games fiasco.
Seems like it was almost a year ago now
