is Bleacher Report Bad

You would think a magazine trying to give comprehensive previews would maybe do some research.

Their anonymous source is probably some 1990s has-been, likely Eric Wynalda, King of the Fox Soccer Douchebags.

Eric Wynalda is the ultimate source. As a technical director himself I'm sure he has the scoop on all the juicy rumors.

That was bad. Really bad. Gooch was clearly the anonymous source.

Also, they could at least do a check to make sure the players' names are spelt right. (Aron Johannsson)

The USA overview in the actual magazine insert isn't much better, though they included an alright infographic.

They interviewed Peter Vermes and Alexi Lalas for an article they wrote about the US in their actual magazine. I wonder who...

I don't see how anyone could argue that this is the worst US team to go to a World Cup.

I could see how you could argue its not the deepest or best, though its also a very easy argument that it is the best US team. And I think it is clearly the deepest.

Yeah. I think this is the best and deepest team we've ever taken.

Despite it lacking any substance whatsoever, it wasn't really that bad.

That's a bad article. Like, really bad. Obviously they've never watched the US play, because Jozy brings his A game when we do. He probably just looked up tabloid articles in the Daily Mail before writing this piece.

Eh
He went through a long scoring drought for the USMNT too. Granted, the whole team was less effective in that time, but he certainly wasn't helping things.

I'm not defending the article, which I didn't read, but there's got to be some concern about Jozy's form after that year at Sunderland.

I read ASN's preview of Ghana (which really wasn't a very well reasoned article either, IMO) yesterday, and it was interesting/scary to see how many of their attacking players are scoring lots of goals lately, in comparison with our group that's mostly not scoring goals.

i'm confused. didn't a soccer magazine write this? talking about the injustice and stupidity of the sport? are you kidding me?

also, makes it seem like Jurgy's plan is to pick MLS players and pump up the league, which

weakest XI, no. not close. though the backline is worrisome.

The story of Jozy's World Cup performance will be told in his first couple of scoring opportunities. If he can put a first two good chances on frame I think he will play well.

Wide, high, or even off the post, I will be worried.

It's a cannibalization of a half-assed overview

Most of their content isn't serious, so I'm not surprised that they threw that in there

They make it seem like we've left off some good talent that's playing in Europe. I can't think of anyone beside maybe Ream. We have arguably our best 30 in camp.

I don't think there is a single European-based or non-MLS based snub. Honestly, I am perfectly fine with the 30 Juergen picked. I may have picked 28 or 29 of those guys if I had to draw up a list of 30 players, and I'm sure the same would hold for the majority of the board.

Who has a legit case? Maybe Orozco Fiscal, but not really? Castillo? Lolz. I was worried he was going to make the team, not vice versa. Onyewu blows. Kljestan is fine, but not good enough. Same with Torres. Gatt is always hurt. Same with poor Stu Holden. Aguedelo didn't score in Holland. Gomez seems over the hill at this point, unfortunately. Maybe Spector or Ream could be counted as snubs, but if you're arguing that Klinsmann chose the 9th best defender instead of the 8th best, that's a real stretch.

This is obviously one of the strongest US teams when it comes to attack and midfield. It's not even up for debate. Look at 2010 and 2014. Guys like Ricardo Clark and Jose Torres started games in 2010. They haven't even come close to making the 30 team roster this time around. Edu and Feilhaber played every game in the WC. They have had very small roles in the USMNT since then, and we've unearthed good talents, although I wish Benny had gotten more chances.

We had to rely on garbage players like Edson Buddle and Robbie Findley in 2010. Now, that's not the case.

Left back: We had fricking Bornstein in 2010. Now we have a real left back.

We are weaker in central defense and right back now, but that is 3 of 11 positions (possibly 2 of 11). Add in Donovan not being the same since he is older, and that's 4 out of 11 at worst. Hardly much of a reason to call the team weak.

And I don't believe we are really weaker in central defense. Defensively overall we've been strong since 2012.
Besler has played very well. Gonzales's errors are well known, but he's not as bad as people say.
We've struggled against the likes of Belgium, Brazil, and Germany, but that's not saying much.

It looks like Geoff Cameron will play centerback for us. Klinsmann prefers Cameron in a central role, be it as a defender or a defensive midfielder. This is why there are about five potential rightbacks called into the preliminary roster.

Deandre Yedlin
Michael Parkhurst
Brad Evans
Fabian Johnson plays RB for Hoffenheim
Timmy Chandler

No manager would call in that many players from one position to a preliminary roster if he thought that the rest of the roster wasn't already solid. Three of those guys listed above will probably get cut.
