I'll try to make this short, and keep in mind that I was at work when this all happened. My kid has a t-ball game. They're playing a team whose coach is known to argue with umps, other coaches, etc... One of the kids on our team is running home and collides with the opposing team's player who is covering home. They both fall to the ground, and the kid on our team starts crying because he hurt his head. Our coaches and the kid's mom go to him to assess the situation. They were dusting him off, when the coach for the other team comes stomping up and belittles the child and his mother. He says, "He should have known that he might get hurt running full speed." Mind you, no one has said a word to him up to this point. My wife goes to the dugout and gets our son and they go home.

The coach for their team is a local high school baseball coach and uses his influence and large physical presence to try to intimidate umps, parents, other coaches, etc... He has shown his arse like this on numerous occasions.

I've already emailed him, but can I do anything else besides switching leagues next year?

ETA email I sent:
My name is _______, and my son is a member of the league in which you coach. He is on the Rangers team and played against your team, the Ragin' Cajuns, today Tuesday May 20th. My wife informed me of a disturbing incident in which one of our players collided with one of your players in a play at the plate. Our player was crying and in distress, and according to my wife, you took exception to the attention he was receiving from his mother and others on the team. According to my wife you "stomped across the field" and belittled the child, his mother, and the team by saying that he should have known he would get hurt running to home at full speed. Mr. ______, this is not the first time you have acted in a boorish, unprofessional way. I have twice witnessed you questioning an umpire's call in an intimidating fashion. Since one of the umpires that you questioned was a _______ student, he quickly overturned his call.

I'm writing to tell you this: My son will not be a part of any league that boasts you as a coach. This league has forever lost our patronage due to your actions, and rest assured, the commissioner of the league will be informed of this as well. Your entitled, self-absorbed, insensitive attitude is a perfect illustration of the decline of sportsmanship in America. What you are teaching to your players is not something I want my son taught.

Lastly, please remember this: These kids are 4-6 years old. This is t-ball. You've got to get a grip.

Final update: I talked with the coach, and this is an OT first. I was wrong. The coach explained his side, and for those that said I shouldn't listen to a woman about sports, you're right. I still think that the zeal should be contained better. Sorry for the let down, guys!

My wife said that he continued arguing with the mother and our coaches as her and my son were leaving. When you're yelling at a 5 year old and his mother, you're irate.

Nah man you can't do that. Hotheads have been around the park since Admiral Doubleday's day. You just got to shake the guy off. If it was that bad you can contact the league head, but never, ever use your wife or any woman as your credible witness in a sporting situation and never, ever let your kid quit in the middle of anything.

She keeps the scorecards at any baseball game we go to, including MLB. She knows a few things.

I would agree to this if it weren't t-ball. I know he's going to see a lot of douches while playing sports, but right now, he's still a young child who should be sheltered from behavior like that if possible.

Where the hell was the other teams coach, and any male parents?

If I was the coach/parent and I saw this I would probably be on the field. No way in hell should anyone stand for this behavior, especially at the tee-ball level. That is ridiculous.

I would have sent the same thing. It's t-ball. Kids are there to learn the basics. There are really no outs kept, scores recorded, or records kept. Wtf is wrong with people like that. All t-ball is there for is to learn the very basics of the game.
