Tracking device on a safe?

Is this something that can be done?

I would think the best place to mount one would be inside, but then I don't think the signal would work.

Anyone know if this is feasible?

How big of a safe are we talking here? And what are the contents? I can think of a few ways for (1) preventing theft or (2) tracking the safe. It's simply a matter of cost/benefit, especially if there is an unlikely chance of it ever being stolen.

Possibly.

Where do you live? Gonna need your address to determine signal strength and range.

Tracking your birth certificate, passport and a few savings bonds doesn't seem worth the effort but that's just me

No its not feasible IMO, I mean they could always put a faraday cage around it and you would be fricked. Just dig a hole in your floor, insert the safe face up and then fill it with concrete if you are so worried.

Bolt to slab like a gun safe. What about putting the contents in a safe deposit box?

This is the best bet if it is just documents, jewelry and cash.

I didn't really want to bolt it in the floor because I may move in the next few years, but that may be the best choice. Don't really want to do the safety deposit box because I just like having my valuables close.

You sound paranoid but ok! It really doesn't matter if you bolt it or not, with a gun to your head you are gonna open it.

You got a duffle under your bed with some cash, clothes and a pistol? Fugitive style.

I do, it also has a gas mask and bullet proof vest, but I am not a fugitive!

From what I understand most safety deposit boxes require advanced notification for you to access them. I'd just rather not have to plan ahead like that.

No notice for me other than during business hours. Cheap. I've got a couple of them in different banks.

Get a locker at a bus terminal or the airport.

yes, it can be done, but your biggest problem will be a power source. LINK

this one has a two week lifespan before recharging.

Thanks for the link. It looks like the battery will stay charged a lot longer than two weeks if it's off all the time then kicks on with motion activated tracking.
