You guys have helped me plenty with previous projects so i figured I would bring another DIY project to you guys for advice.
This is the deck that is in my backyard. (I know it is a crappy shot but it will have to do. )
It is structurally sound but it is old and ugly and in need of an update. My question is this: what would you do to revitalize this deck? I dont want to tear it down but if I cant let my little girl play on it without getting splinters, then it needs to go. I have seen the deckover stuff at home depot. Any testimonials? Any other routes that should be taken?

Your fence and deck don't match. Add this to the trashy list.

that'll do the trick

Sand the whole thing. Seal and urethane. Sounds pretty straight forward.

sand and stain
pressure wash will remove that paint
pressure wash will remove that paint

sand it and re-stain it. that lattice for is ugly as shite too. get rid of it.

my first thought is to get a belt sander and go to town on the deck and railings. you'll have to either remove or replace the latticework since it won't be worth your time to sand something so intricate. replace any rotten pieces, prime it all and repaint.

If he starts this weekend, he'll be done by fall.

Can i use some sort of paint thinner/pressure washer to remove paint, then deckover to skip the sanding process? I would almost prefer to tear it down than sand that whole damn thing.

Use a deck cleaner/stripper, then pressure wash. At that point see if you need to sand(just the deck boards and rail cap), do so if needed, if not, choose a similar color stain and go to town

Not if he finds some kid desperate to learn karate!

Tell your little girl you are going to teach her karate. 1st step, sand the floor.

Leave the structure, pull the deck boards and replace with trex deck or something similar.
