Actually, it looks like he says the last spot will come from one of Louisville, Houston, and LSU.

Then he proceeds to compare Louisville to Houston (favors Louisville) and LSU to Vanderbilt. It's a very strange, illogical argument. You can see why he does this when you read his support for Louisville...LSU basically outclasses Louisville based on the metrics he chooses to make the case for Louisville.

quote:

The Cardinals absolutely have some holes in their resume, such as just 11 wins vs. RPI Top 100 teams. However the Cards have a top 20 RPI, won the American Athletic Conference and swept Houston on the road earlier this season. For now, UL gets the edge over UH for that reason,

Dallas Baptist received an at large bid even thought they didn't play in a conference. They played weekend series with SWAC schools and small Division 1 schools that had an odd number of conference teams. Therefore, they racked up midweek wins against teams like Baylor, Texas A&M, and Arkansas by pitching their top pitchers against the other teams midweek pitching. They actually won a regional, but that doesn't change the fact that LSU would have easily racked up the same record against their schedule.

HCB pointed out that St. John was the likely last choice. I don't like them either.

It's convenient he lines up Vandy and LSU and puts stats for each team up against each other, except lsu's record in nonconference. I guess because it's superior to Vandys.

quote:

RPI of 34, have a strength of schedule of 73 and are 4-8 vs. RPI Top 25, 12-12 vs. RPI Top 50 and 18-12 vs. RPI Top 100. By comparison, the Commodores had a non-conference RPI of 3 with a 21-3 non-conference mark, along with an SOS of 20, and records of 8-6 vs. RPI Top 25, 18-14 vs. RPI Top 50 and 24-15 vs. RPI Top 100.

Im not against his argument for Vandys resume but if you are going to compare stats dont omit ones that dont help your argument.

I want to advance deep into the tournament. If playing Tennessee instead of Vanderbilt is advantageous to that goal, then that is what I want. Get to the finals of the SEC tournament and we lock up a regional host. I don't care if we play Tennessee, Mizzou, and Auburn.
