Does anyone have recommendations for a quality touchscreen laptop/tablet? I'm thinking about purchasing one as my second computer for work/school (I currently have an old Macbook and Ipad in pretty good shape).

I'm in graduate school for economics and I've noticed some fellow students have devices that enable them to type out notes in Microsoft Word (once installed) and then, when we start writing graphs or mathy stuff, allows them to take out a pin and start drawing on their word document. This is the most important feature I want; taking notes can be a pain when you have to flip back and forth between the typed out portions and the handwritten.

So far these are the three I've looked at:
-HP intel core i3 4020y
-Samsung OneNote
-Windows Surface Pro

Let me know if there are others you think would be better deals. I'm flexible between a tablet and laptop, but all else equal I like the idea of having another fully functional computer. That's why the HP appeals to me. It's got the 2 in 1 feature.

Thanks for your input

Don't get a Sony. They have had many issues lately including faulty batteries and bad wifi cards.

what budget? I looked at the Surface Pro several times because I wanted a spreadsheet program on my tablet to run some of my advanced formulas and Apple finally updated Numbers to run a lot of them so I am set on a tablet (iPad Air).

If you need a cheaper one, I saw a tablet on Amazon not long ago that runs Windows 8 full version and it was sub $400. I think it was a Dell one and i have no clue how good it is but the Asus has floated down a good bit now and it was always rated pretty highly.

Ipads lack a digitizer. Inking on a screen sans palm rejection is not a good experience.

If you need something that will quickly convert from laptop to tablet, I would go with the surface pro 2. It is a very capable little machine, and because of the way that it converts (just a simple fold, no connectors to separated and reattached) I would wager it will have a longer life being used in such a way. As far as the Samsung, I assume you mean note. It is a capable tablet as well, but it does not compare to the surface. The sampling rate of the digitizer, speed of the core i5 and capability of the full version of Microsoft one note cannot be matched by any Android device. I have used many machines to ink on since 2007 and the surface pro will be my next one. Tomorrow MS is revealing a new surface model so I am hoping they will show off the surface pro 3 as well.

You cannot get better note taking from a stylus than on the Samsung note 10.1 2014 edition. Look up what all the s-pen can do. It's more than a stylus.

I have a surface pro 2 and just love it. (I using it right now). I'll admit it takes some time to get used to, but once you do...

I can split the screen in two and multitask. It runs all of the applications a laptop/desktop would. I even like the Metro interface.

Coming from an IPad, I wish it had a few more of the applications that I really liked on there. But for the most part, I was able to find suitable substitutes.

I also like having a USB port and the ability to easily connect it to a larger monitor.
